FREAK AT THE PUMP

I pulled up to the local Walfart this morning and to my surprise there was a VW Passat at the pump filling up with diesel. First thing I say is Ya know your putting diesel in that car ! He laughed cause he heard my car. We talked for quite awhile even though he had a rainbow colored tie -dyed T- shirt on with a Buc-ees beaver guy in the middle. Me being concerned about my reputation was wary about being recognized by any locals , especially Prairie Poo who still thinks Im a Redneck Hillbilly.
Anyways he had a 2011 VW Passat it was black and absolutely beautiful . Said he paid $ 35'000 for the car brand new. VW paid him $ 30'000 because of Diesel Gate! scandal. So he got it for $ 5000.00 ! What a deal.
What was ironic about the whole conversation was hes driving a diesel and he works at Tesla in Austin Texas !

I wasnt at a high school reunion, just a brief conversation at the pump. I wasnt there to grill the guy on what his arrangement was with the buy back.
Perhaps you can enlighten us on on how that worked, I just went on his word.

Briefly, VW was ordered to fix or buy back the dieselgate cars. Many owners took the buyback because it was enough that they basically had free use of the car during their ownership. Owners who opted for the fix got extended warranties, but no cash.

Owners who opted for the fix got extended warranties, but no cash.

We received cash (in addition to the fixes and extended warranty) but it wasn't anywhere close to book value on the car. I think I got $3500 for each car (which we'd bought private sale used, AFTER the whole dieselgate scandal broke; might have been more if one had purchased the car new (?); half was paid after phase 1 (software fix) and the other half after phase 2 (hardware fix).

That reminds me. When I was in High School you didnt have to pay first to get your gas . So when out with friends I would volunteer to take the money from the pump to pay for the gas. Well they would give me five dollars and I would buy cigarettes and whatever else I could get for five dollars.
I would spend their money they'd put five bucks in their car and drive off not knowing I never paid for the gas . Worked like a charm every time

That's funny, we actually did call him Amish Abe. When he quit the shop to go back to Rockport we got a cake and put a black horse and buggy on it

Well if I see him and its his birthday we'll put a 67 Impala Low Rider on the cake and say Welcome to South Texas Third World Living At Its Finest!
Plus he would probably be hard to single out since there are so many freaks in Rockport now their hard to keep up with . I do like the Amish though they are a fine people , although their lifestyle may seem a little odd to most folks they probably live high on the hog compared to most Suburbanites

He's down there somewhere most likely still rebuilding Cummins engines for the generators in the oil fields.
