For those of you who, like i, always like the option of a alternative. According to the fram 2000 catalog a cartridge oil filter for the 99.5 tdi is now listed. The new p/n now available is CH-8530.

Fram doesn't have such a good reputation.

It doesn't cost much to buy genuine VW oil filters from a parts discounter like vwparts.com

Fram USED to have a good reputation. These days most of their products suck. Their regular "orange" oil filters are horrible quality. I'll stick with the German filters until somebody I trust makes a decent alternative.

But the point of this would be that the 99.5 oil filters are without the "can". Now we can inspect what the filter is made of. If it is close to and cheaper than VW's filter, why not. Thanks for the # !

Fram is a good filter!!!!

I bought my filter from a dealer in Matteson Il.
Dave Miller 7.75 per filter

I would not buy a car there but they do have cheaper parts for my jetta than anyone else in the area. Even where i bought my car
