Very nice pictures!

I like the bra on the front. Is that the factory one?

I don't have a first-aid kit in my Golf, did it come with the car?

Norman,
CONGRATULATIONS! Geez, what a gorgeous car! Of course, I am partial to white Golf GLS-TDIs, since I just got one for me last week.
I like that WheelSkin steering wheel cover. Was it a stock size, and if so, what size is it? (I'm looking to get one, too, since it comes in different colors.)

By the way, I noticed you're from California, and I gotta say, "Whew!, just in the nick of time, eh?" What with the current Kalifornia TDI embargo I read about on different threads. What a relief it is for me, too. I was sooo worried that the car I had put down a deposit for might go astray, or be cancelled somehow, like the 1996 Golf TDI was.

Ibiza,

The bra is from Perfect Fit (www.carbras.com) up in Seattle, WA. There's another thread in General Discussion that goes into a little more detail. The fit and finish is as good as a Colgan bra, at a lower price.
This is not the factory bra. I think Robber (?) has one in the pics of his white GL, so perhaps he might chip in with a comparison. The first aid kit was a Target item; I think you can get a pretty good kit for about $11-$12 or so. You never know when you might have to use it...

cars wanted,

I think the Wheelskins (www.wheelskins.com) were the AXX size, which is a stock size. I'll check again when I get home, but at the time I remember thinking "is this going to actually fit?!" I just followed Peter's (and Wheelskin's) advice to just pull as hard as you can on the thread to make sure you get a nice, tight, lace up on the wheel. You can get these things for about $25 + tax, so it may pay to shop around a bit.

Yeah, it was kind of interesting getting this car. It seems like (most) everyone on this list has these incredible war stories of long waits (been there), and dealer battles (done that), and this wasn't too different. I had originally "ordered" silver/black (I'm an idiot, aren't I?..), with Jazz Blue being my second choice (HA!), and white/black being my third. So, I put my deposit down (yeah, yeah, I know...) and commence my wait... Well, about 2+ months into the wait, I read on Fred's that the TDIs are hasta lavista, bye-bye for California! Yikes! Panic! "Oh, the humanity...!" So I call the dealer and ask him if he's heard about this rumor. "No. As a matter of fact, I've got a white Golf GLS TDI, no Lux, 5spd on our printout for delivery" Hmmm, ya got a VIN # on that?... Well, to make a long story short, I actually did look at their printout, and there really was a VIN # attached to this car, so there was hope yet! Fast forward a couple-three weekends further on; my parents are visiting us from out of town and during a lull, I call my office v-mail to check for messages (something I rarely do, so I look on this as some sort of sign, or car-ma
) Well, the salesman left a message at my work telling me that my car was in! Crimany, I leave these guys my work phone, my home phone, my cell phone, my pager #, and they call and leave a message at my work, on a weekend!! So it was, that on a mid afternoon in August (the 22nd to be exact), I finally got my TDI and what could very well have been the last new TDI coming out of that dealership for the current model year. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it...

Very beautiful car. Very heartwarming story. Inspires hope in those of us for which there is barely any (waiting for a Silver/anything GLS to come on the lot).

Very nice car. Good looking installation of the wheelskin too (took me like three weeks and it doesn't look half as good).

The title of this thread leads me to ask a question: Why is it called a "Golf"? Why not "Football", or "Lacrosse"?

Actually, I could think of nothing witty for the Gulf Stream, which is supposedly what the Golf is named after.

pretty cool! Now I have some serious incentive to get my Golf up here. One of these days. Too bad Todd Scott couldn't work his camera
. I guess I'll just have to go about it the hard way (gettin a picture that is).

Dezlboy,

The interior is supposed to be black (even though it looks like charcoal/grey, huh?).
You know everything you've been reading about lint?...it's true.

Great pics, Norman! This is just getting me in the mood for celebrating the arrival of my Y2K Golf GL/TDI sometime in the next few weeks. I ordered a 1999 Indigo Blue 5-speed Golf on March 9th. In June, three automatics showed up. The dealer reordered and said it would be here in Sept. or Oct. So I told him in that case I wanted a 2000 model. Last I heard it was somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic -- and it's a Silver/Black one with a CD changer instead of the Indigo one I really wanted. Silver is OK but it's the color of my '82 diesel Rabbit which I've been driving since it was new. I was kind of ready for a color change! From what I've read in other entries on this page, I should count my blessings I'm getting one at all!
Well, happy dieseling, Norm!

Norman,

Hate to be a pain....but....

Does your window sticker actually say "Black interior" cause indeed it looks grayish, and gray is suppossed to be offered this year. So, I wonder if VW just lighten their black interiors (cause they were black black) or have added gray also.

Hi, DEZLBOY

As I type I am looking at the actual window sticker listing the equipment/options that come on this particular "2000 Golf GLS TDI";
anyway, down around the middle of the sheet in the "PACKAGES/OPTIONS" section it states "Black Cloth" so I guess this is VWAG's idea of black.. I think I would have preferred the GL's cloth instead of the velour cloth of the GLS, but it's all a matter of preference, I suppose. If you end up with black black, be sure to post a pic so we can compare!

Regarding the black/grey issue:

I have a "Black" velour interior, like Norman. My friend Pugs, who is also a member here, has the "Grey" velour interior. There is definitely a difference between the two.

The "grey" is like the shade of grey that the grey area of my browser, or the area I'm typing this into, is. (Does that make any sense?) The "black" is definitely as shown in the above photos. The grey is, in fact, quite light in shade.

Norman: Love your car! Mine's the same other than it's Satin Silver. Enjoy!
