MKI and MKII VWs are better looking than any of them!
Digressing here, but, I do have fond memories of my 1977 Rabbit that I purchased for $200, almost made it home when the timing belt broke and motor took a dump. And how about the worst quality and arguably ugliest VW of them all: my 1972 Super Beetle. In addition to the Beetle I've owned the ugliest and worst of the worst:75&77Pintos,74Gremlin(nothing topped that), '75 Charger, 74 Hornet, 88 Chev S10 2.5L, 86 Excel. Can anyone top that losers' list?(my apology to any one that still owns one these mentioned s**tcans)

What's with the (tinted or otherwise) license plate covers? What are you people protecting?

How is that not illegal?
Its called keeping my plates nice...ive been using them for over 6 years on all my cars with only one time being asked about them...and it was 3 am on a friday night when i left work and they were looking for something to get me on as i wasnt drinking or speeding they never gave me a ticket or anything. I just went through a ride stop last night with my new car and police never said anything other then have a good night:cool:

:p Yeah....I don't know why it is - I'm 6'5" and wear cowboy boots. Maybe its 'cause they have a hard time associating me with anything but my truck.

How about the Vega and the Pinto?

At least your cars didn't explode when tapped or have an aluminum engine block that was absolutely unreliable.

I thought that by including the Ford Pinto, I would capture everything wrong with the wheezer-mobiles Detroit started pumping out in the 1970s. But even worse than the Pinto, many readers insisted, was the Chevrolet Vega. This compact, meant to take on imports like the Volkswagen Beetle, actually won honors as Motor Trend's Car of the Year for 1971. It sold well. Then the body started to rust. The aluminum engine started to warp. There were engine fires and mounting recalls.

Here's how a few Vega owners recall the experience: "What an absolute pile of junk that was. It was not uncommon for the engine to start burning oil before 50,000 miles. The early models were complete rust buckets. The quality control was atrocious. And they had a reverse-hinged hood that came through the windshield in head-on collisions."

"I was 17 years old when I got my 1972 Vega GT. I thought it was so cool. Little did I know that the aluminum-block engine was so bad. At 50,000 miles, the engine went out. The local Chevy dealer put in a new, short-block engine at no charge, saying that GM knew they had a problem. The car was low quality, too—rattles, shakes, and a terrible ride."

"Any list that begins with the Pinto should also include the Vega. It was stylistically ahead of the Pinto but so cheaply built that alignment could be accomplished with a 10-pound sledgehammer!"

"If you ran the Vega for 10 minutes at 50 miles per hour and then stopped by the side of the road, you could cook breakfast on the hood. It seems the aluminum-block engine threw off enough heat to make any elite brand of oven jealous."

"I owned a '71 Vega GT. For the first year, I enjoyed the car, but after that many problems started developing. At the end of the second year, I was washing the car, and my finger went right through the lower part of the front fender because of rust. Then the aluminum heads warped."

"I had a 1972 Vega. My family struggled to purchase the car for me as their contribution to college, as I was putting myself through school. I loved the car. It was zippy and great for a college student. Then two years later, the car simply died. The aluminum-block engine had cracked under heat. I was told I could replace the engine, but lacking resources, I sold it as junk. A two-year-old car!"

"I was on the oil side of the automotive research business for most of my career. It was like GM started building junk in 1973 to spite the government for insisting on crashworthiness, catalytic converters, and the 55-mph speed limit. The Vega was arguably worse than the Pinto. It had an unsleeved aluminum-block engine with an iron head, which overheated and warped. Cowl sheet metal rusted through in two years. Junk."

I'm in the it looks great category. I had an MKV and it was the same color platinum grey as my new 2011. I have not found one complaint from anyone and many who ride with me appreciate the increased room. I find the car to be quite nice and will soon go for a tint and in the spring some new wheels. I really like the 20" Audi S line.

Agreed.

That's why my Wife likes this car.

She has a long commute, but still wants a car that looks nice.

Check my list again. TWO Pintos! I think that should be equal to a Pinto and a Vega, no?
