I have a Ross Tech Micro Can USB cable for sale that I can no longer use with my new Touareg.
It works with VW products based on MK 5 technology only.

If your car's chassis type isn't on this list, it's not compatible with this interface! All of these chassis-types are the latest generation of that model. Previous generations of the same model are not compatible and should use a KII- or HEX- series interface instead.

Don't know too much about VCDS, but is this all one would need (obviously along with a computer) to change settings? Is a license or anything else required? Or just plug and start modding?

The license is built in to the cable. Install software from rosstech site and plug in cable. Then good to go.

The cable is its own "Dongle" and you just download the VCDS program and it recognizes the interface and it works.
You have to plug the USB in and then initialize the unit anytime you use the program for the first time or download an upgraded program by clicking the options box.
You select USB and you are good to go.
IF you want factory support in troubleshooting they want $99 to register the cable, but not for unlimited use and unlimited VIN numbers.
The new cables ($199.00) have a basic 3 VIN limit for the "Enthusiast" and an extra $100 for 10 VIN.
The 'Professional" is higher still.
This cable is cheaper, unlimited, but only works on the above listed cars
THIS CABLE IS CHEAPER BUT ONLY WORKS ON THE ABOVE LISTED CARS.
I just bought a 2012 Touareg TDI Executive and need the new unit and I can upgrade swapping this cable for the 10 VIN Enthusiast cable for $150.00.
All I am looking for is the $150 to put another $50 with it to get the 3 VIN cable for less since I only have the one car and unlikely to have more than two more.

I decided to just trade it to Ross Tech and not worry with selling.
There was little advantage to selling vs trading unless I got the 3 VIN cable.
