The Bad
Rockers rusted through, right fender bottom rust through, tailgait surface rust
codes P0201,P0674,P2196,P0263
right side door locks fr&rear not working
air bag light
ac not working
turn indicator clicking
Had an accident to the front end last year. repalced hood, grill, bumper, headlights and the stuff that's under all that. It looked bad but I was still able to drive it back home. No leaking coolant or any fluids and no front end alignment issues. Suspension on the front needs a refresh

The Good
Had timing belt service done by Precision Tuning begining of Oct 2024.
At that time also engine mount, dipstick, dogbone,
Always had Perjad do the big stuff that I couldn't or didn't want to do myself.
Aways used Liquimoly 505.1 and german filters. Actual only bought regular maintenance parts from Precision Tuning.
2 sets of rims, aluminum and steel.

The Fun Stuff
Malone Tune 1.5
Frost Heater
Boost Gauge
Defender Tech Skid Plate
EGR delete (I have the EGR)
5 brake light mod
Nuespeed rear stabilizer bar
Scan Gauge

Some History
Bought the car from Haldimand Motors in 2009. Still love the car. Always get 1000km on a tank. So torquey and fun to drive!
Just don't want to put anymore time or money into it.
I have no idea on price.
I'd like to get $2000 for it but because that was the last invoice from Perjad.
Am I asking to much? to little? just want it to go to good home for parts or a resto.
I can drive it pretty much anywhere you want, within reason (not Subbury) I live in Etobicoke

I know, Iknow, WHERE ARE THE PICS? Don't know how to do that :(
Also don't know how to have a private conversion if you want to see it but maybe we could figure that out.

Thanks for all the wonderfull information that this forum has given me over the years

Thank You
Rick

Sorry to be negative, but given the known issues with the car I'm not sure you will get much over a grand for it.

Just the rockers alone will probably be at LEAST $1000 to fix at a shop. That's assuming there aren't other rust issues that aren't immediately apparent. I had some underside rust stuff fixed on my '03 Wagon last year for BC Inspection, and it wasn't cheap, but worth it to me considering I didn't want to buy a car. The other issues you listed just add on.

Definite PROJECT car. I agree with P2B.

To try and get more, maybe parting it out might be the way to go? 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for the responses.
I'll try and get some pictures up tomorrow.
Is there a way to move the thread over to Ontario Cars For Sale?
Wish I saw that earlier

If you have the ability, I would part it out. A few years ago, I decided to part my jetta out, given that in it's condition, needing some repairs to pass safety, I figured i'd get about 1500 for the car as is.

I stripped almost all of it apart. Just the engine alone (ALH), with 420k km, got me 500 bucks, and that was without the turbo. The turbo was fairly new at the time, about 1 year old, just a stock vnt-15, and I got 500 for that. I scrapped the shell for 275 bucks, but mind you, this was 2022, with prices of scrap metal still very high, it would probably be less now.

So far, I have gotten back over 3000 in parts from that car, and I still have parts left over for sale, just not very common parts so those just sit, which is fine with me given i've gotten back well over what my car was worth at the time

As an example, that skid defender plate you got would probably fetch you 200 bucks, maybe more, given there's not a ton of mk4s around, and those who want to keep theirs running will start paying a premium for rare/harder to find mk4 parts

Request sent to the moderators.
I think it takes someone above a moderator's pay grade to move something within a Forum. The Ontario Cars for Sale thread doesn't come up as an option when I tried to move it.

Not at the hourly rate my time is worth to me. I scrapped my A4 BEW manual wagon, no rust, everything working correctly except for a bad turbo bearing. A turbo would be about $1500, and I'd end up with a car worth ..... $1500.
Car was donated (towed to) to a friend and signed over. He replaced the turbo and gave the car to a friend of his who was in a financial hardship.

I hear this argument all the time and it's a fallacy... Unless you have zero spare time, or, in your spare time, you have other means of earning a greater income, then there is no reason to not take a few hours here and there (if you have the space and means) to get more money then you would by sending a car to the scrap yard

My pocket has 1500 bucks more then it would've had, and I spent that time learning something new too by dismantling my first car... So, I'd happily do it again, but hey, to each their own

As vocational training on "..my first car..." there is some value to the lessons you'll learn.
I'm too many cars and too many years past that 'first car' point. I've learned what makes financial sense and what is a loss.

Too many.
I used to strip them and try to sell anything I deemed worthwhile. Now I just tow them out to the farm and take what I need when I need it...

Thanks people
I really don't have the space or inclination to start taking the car apart and have parts sitting around till someone wants a set of headlights or a bumper or whatever.
Thanks for your input all around
You're a good bunch

2005 Passat Wagon (BHW/5-spd conv, 03T). I keep in touch with the (2) ALH's I sold.
Pics?

not sure on those codes, but sucks to part a wagon that’s running and driving. Hopefully someone in an area without inspections can snatch this and keep on trucking!

I thought us frugal people were more than “skin deep” :D
