319,000 miles! Black and very clean no door dents or scuffs I was very anal where I parked it.
Black interior is clean- non smoker. Roof liner is still perfect, non ripped
heated seats, heated mirrors and radio still works.
newer tires, brakes and rotors new this summer as are the rear calipers.
Struts, shocks, half shafts and and anything rubber underneath was replaced even those pesky trailing arm bushings (what a job).
Some rust where the rear license plate lights are and some rust where the lifetime mud flaps are (I did spray black paint there) other than that very nice paint, again no dents always garaged when it was at home.
Car always got 46 mpg or better never a hiccup or stutter. Engine runs great. First t-belt was changed by Drivbiwire and second one was Landull(spelling?) third was my neighbor and me, neighbor is a lifetime vw mechanic who happens to live next door how lucky is I. The last belt job was at 244,900 miles and the cam and followers were perfect thanks to synthetic oil changes at 8-10,000 miles. EGR turned down thru ecu and elephant hose from second month of ownership, I am the original owner.
All timing belt parts, that means full kits, were purchased from a vender on Fred's tdi site. I resealed the injection pump myself, no leaks. (thanks tdi club! this place rocks) original turbo (that might scare some people) Air conditioner works perfect as does heat and rear window defroster.
Now the bad, coming home from work and was shifting 4th-5th and I don't know if it was a lazy shift or what I did but rpm's were at 1,800 and let out the clutch and bang was the sound I heard. Speedo went nuts for a bit and then just died so I knew something was up.
Tranny still shifted and the clutch still worked as I drove 15 more miles home. pulled up on ramps and then I saw it, tranny oil all over the bottom of car. Took belly shield off and a couple of small pieces of aluminum the size of corn kernels were on the shield.
Clutch does work cause I backed it out of the garage to clean the floor but it does make a noise idling and quiet when pedal is pushed down.
Clearly something busted the case on tranny but I don't know if it was the dual mass clutch, it does have 319,000 on it, maybe the lazy shift pounded a shaft that cracked the case but I can't see where, nothing on the outside but low enough to lose all oil.
Bottom line, great car just needs a tranny and clutch that I just don't have the time to do. Bummer!
I'll have to get some pics. It's out in the snow right now. I have one measly pic on my phone and don't know how to post it.
