FOR SALE: My 1985 MB 300D-T, 194,000 miles, 30 MPG. Car is located 100 miles SW of Chicago.
$3000 Or Best Offer!
1985 was the last year of the W123 chassis and the OM617.952 turbodiesel engine. The OM617.952 is an inline 5-cylinder turbodiesel engine with cast iron block & head making 125 HP and 180ft-lbs of torque. Engine has been run on Delvac-1 since 1999. In my opinion the most rugged and dependable diesel engine MB ever put in a car. The W123 chassis is one of the easiest cars to work on.
I bought this car in 1998 with 117,000 miles on it. I'm the fouth owner. All these years it was wifey's daily driver. I intended to restore it, but after transitions with work, two sons in college, major house restoration, etc, it's not going to happen. I have 6 cars in the fleet and the herd has to be thinned out. So I'm going to do my best to give this old war horse a good home. So if anyone wants a parts car, project car, cigar car, or a simple & reliable diesel beater, etc. this is your car.
The car has an extensive maintenace history with me doing as much work on it as I could. I did farm out the bigger jobs (suspension rebuilds, AC work). The car also comes with MB factory paper & CD manuals and several boxes of new & used spare parts and a set of 15" alloy wheels. I had 195-60-15 tires on the car but I wore them out. Now there are 195-70-14 Nokian WR on the stock wheels. These tires have about 15,000 miles of wear on them.
Some of the work that's been done over the years:
Transmission oil & filter changed around 2003 with Mobil-1 synthetic ATF. This transmission has always shifted good, no slipping of flaring. I have a spare transmission filter & pan gasket.
Front suspension rebuilt with new Bilstein HD shocks, upper control arms, lower bushings, guide rod mounts, ball joints, and steering damper.
Rear suspension rebuilt with all new bearings, swing axles, Bilstein HD shocks, and rebuilt differential.
Fuel system rebuilt with new injection primer pump, all new fuel lines from the fuel tank to the engine, new injector nozzles, and new fuel tank strainer.
The brake system was rebuilt with ATE rotors and Jurid pads with new Girling calipers on the front. All rubber & metal brake lines on the car have been replaced. The short rubber lines are Febi/Bilstein units.
Rebuilt cooling system with all new hoses, water pump & housing, thermostat & housing, aux water pump, and mono-valve. System was flushed last week and fresh MB spec Zerex G-05 coolant put in the car.
Rebuilt vacuum system with rebuilt vacuum pump, door trunk & fuel door actuators, fuel pump cut off switch and vacuum switch at the ignition switch.
New engine mounts and oil cooler lines installed a few years ago.
HVAC system rebuilt with a freshly reworked control unit from GDL, AC lines, expansion valve, vacuum switches for the dash vent dampers, receiver/drier, aux cooling fan, blower motor & fan unit, and R134A freon. GDL website:http://gdl-online.com/begin.html
New Autozone Duralast battery installed last month. Five new Bosch glow plugs installed last winter. Bosch reman starter and alternator installed a few years ago. New glow plug relay. Every bulb in the car has been replaced.
Exhaust system replaced with an all stainless steel system by Timevalve. Timevalve's website: http://www.timevalve.com/
Interior is MB-tex, faded but very clean. The drivers seat has a broken spring. Moon roof doesn't work (rails need to be lubed). Hirschmann power antenna needs an extend/retract mast belt. Other than the obvious rust the car is in good shape and runs strong.

Some interior photos:
Wood trim on the console is is decent shape, there are small cracks starting to show and the wood is starting to delaminate from the aluminum backing plate. This is typical for most MBs this age. The one missing piece from the dash is misplaced in my house somewhere.
Fresh rebuilt HVAC control unit from GDL. 1 year warranty.
Trunk with spare 15" wheels:
This is the only worn spot on the whole interior:
