I've got a Passat Wgn that I'd like to put a hitch on. The Dalan hitch for the wagon doesn't have the cross bar connected to the frame rails like the sedan does. It just bolts to the spare tire well. Can anyone with this hitch for the sedan explain why? Do you think the sedan hitch could be modified (or the wagon be modified) to work on the wagon. Is it just that the spare tire is in the way?

Thanks

John: I'm in the same boat (needing a receiver hitch for B4 wagon, to carry recumbent bicycle) and noticed the same thing. I too would like the sturdier "Sedan" hitch. I'll be interested to see if we get any answers.--george

I've installed the hitch on my Passat Sedan, but I don't know what the wagon layout is like. I've looked at the installation instructions for the Dalan hitch for the wagon and it certainly isn't as "beefy" as the one for the sedan. I would venture a guess that it's plenty strong to support the 200 lb. tongue weight limit. Towing would be another matter though.

the above link is for a hitch for a '93 Passat wagon. Jonathan Bartlett used the hitch for a '93 Passat sedan on his '96 Passat sedan so maybe the one for a '93 wagon would work for you. It certainly is more like the one I installed on my sedan.
