Flat towing a Passat

Check the owners manual. IIRC, my JSW with the dsg does not recommend flat towing for more than emergency issues. There's a release inside the shifter box that has to be moved for flat towing.

The best solution may be one of those "dolly trailers" with just a pair of wheels that keeps the drive wheels of your vehicle off the ground.

A good story about how not to tow stuff: me and a few buddies were on our way to a local pizza place for lunch. We see a cop and a tow truck trying to get an Audi A4 from a tight parking spot, owner absent ... guess unpaid tickets etc.
Minutes later as we wuz enjoying our slices, the A4 is towed in the front of the joint, front wheels off the ground, the rear wheels skipping and jerking like crazy, as they certainly destroyed the tranny and/or transfer case in that Quatro equipped car. $6K in damage ?
