Hello all, just purchased my first VW and it's a 2011 VW Jetta TDI DSG. I have been following the progress and reliability of the TDI since the current gen engines came out and finally felt ready to jump in. Plus the new body style is a much more attractive package. Just drove it home last night (Saint Patrick's Day) and it was excellent on the way home. I hot the Tempest Blue with Cornsilk interior, with the appearance package, sunroof and touch-screen radio.
I do all my own maintenance on my three other cars and participate in forums for my 1991 Miata and my 1988 Toyota Landcruiser. So expect walk-throughs of any maintenance of issues I have the the new Jetta.
I will post some pics of the new ride as soon as the sun is up and I have time at the computer. I have already been lurking and found the info and posts here very informative. Like the other forums, I find talking with other owners is invaluable with any car. Helps when people love their cars as much as people seem to here.

Welcome aboard. I look forward to the pics. I'm sure the more you drive the more you'll enjoy your Jetta. That's been my experience. From doing some reading here you'll discover that the high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) may be the achilles heel of the CRs. From what I've been reading, the newer models appear to have more robust HPFPs. Whatever the case, be sure to use good quality fuel and many advocate use of an additive or 2-5% biodiesel blend to keep the lubricity optimized and the wear/tear on the HPFP minimized. Happy motoring!

I read all about the HPFP and the recommendations, I am concerned about that. However, I have also had other much more "reliable" cars bomb engines. BTW, am posting from my iPhone and just noticed all the typos, so apologies.

Congrats on purchasing a great vehicle.
I am sure you will love the FE and having to stop for refuel as frequently as your Landcruiser.

I will soon have my 1st new car and VW as well, so I look forward to the experiences and fun you and the others are having with their TDI's. Mine will be here late this month (ordered White Gold/Cornsilk/DSG w/ Nav). I already have a set of 18's chosen, LED DRLs & Interior, tinted tail lights and windows, APR Carbino intake, Dieselgeek Panzer plate, new speakers and other mods ready for it.

I can't wait for the 1st drive and getting better than 18MPG as well.

Congrats and welcome to the TDIclub

Congrats and welcome to the :)TDIclub:D . Just find some BD% and mix it in to keep HPFP demans away :D. I'm sure there is someplace in your area to get a 5 gal container of B100 to spash blend in . Plus the current ones are a redesign of the system so hopefully all the issues are solved . That is what I will do when I get one of these things in a few years .

Thanks, I work with a bunch of granola eating, Birkenstock wearing hippie types who drive diesels, so they can point me to a good source of bio-diesel in the area. Not that there's anything wrong with hippies, probably better then being a Gen X'er like me. As long as they keep the Tofu away from me.

Anyhow...I would really like to play with the car and get some decent pictures, but my wife has been doing errands all day. {sigh} Plus its sunny with the temperature in the low 80's so the Miata needs some love too!

just purchased the same car tempest/cornsilk

welcome and i am a newbie to the tdi also. I have been a little disappointed in some of the threads about the problems with the 2011 Jetta tdi. Maybe it's just the people who have problems speak a little louder than those of us that are very happy with our purchase.
