I found a thread on here about the 2015+ TDIs having an issue with rough starts only on the first start of the day after sitting overnight in mild to warm (50-60F) temps, and this dutch mechanic found the most likely cause to be the VVT solenoid was leaking, which causes a loss in pressure (it was actually redesigned to fix the issue)

my 2013 JSW has started doing this. does the MK6 have the same issue? after the first rough start (~2 seconds of cranking first) it's followed by immediate starts the rest of the day

I had the same issue, and read somewhere on here to wait a few seconds longer after the glow plug light goes away, on the first start in the morning, and haven't had the issue since. I tried not waiting the other day(after about a year of doing the first starts this way) just to see if it was still a thing, and indeed it was.

Weak battery is probably the #1 factor... there was also a TT about the power relay that I recall seeing at some point in the past.....
