i got the blend mount(vw-003) and the mirror tap (MT-1012)
and installed it in my 2014 passat tdi sel
i removed the cover and unplugged the wire harness

negative went to brown wire and positive went to gray/green

then made a hole on the cover so the wires arent pinched. and done.

nm, i got it. It was a pain in the @#$. They didn't go all the way in but enough to stay in where I can put the cover back on.

this is from the side

this is where the power goes in the mirror mount.

I don't have a pic from the driver but I could snap another shot when leaving tomorrow or when I go out to grab another beer :)

worth the money?

How do you like the mount?

Is it worth the high price?

How hard is it to hit mute?

Does it seem well made? I know it uses a spring, I take mine down every time I leave so that is a lot of movement.

Driver side

Yes well worth it. Clean dash area and easy to take down. I have one in my 4runner and passat now.

Its easy to mute, depending on what model detector you have. I have a 9500 in the pictures above, its easy to mute. The 8500's mute button is on the front so its no issue at all. You can loosen the screw on the side to adjust the angle up and down of the detector. I wanted mine to be as level as possible but its definitely able to be moved up and down.

I just purchased the same setup for my 13 TDI SEL / Bel RX-65....haven't installed the wiretap yet - what did you use to "snap off" the cover where the wiring harness is located? Flathead screwdriver? I'm a little hesitant because I don't want to damage that part and then have it not "snap" back on. Also did you install the wire tap with the detector bracket installed or not? I have big hands and there isn't a lot of room back there to work. Thanks.

I just installed this setup, and it looks and works perfectly. The cover around the mirror is best snapped off by inserting a very thin bladed screw driver at the seam, where the two halfs meet, and carefully pry them apart.

The mirror wire most definately needs to be installed before the mount is attached. The two pins on the mirror wire are very hard to insert into the wire connector, but need to go in at least half way for the cover to go back on. Even then it will barely make it.

If you drill a 3/16" hole in the back of the mirror cover, where the two halfs meet, it is perfect size for the mirror wire to exit, and the cover be flush.

If you screw up the cover and need another, the part number is 1K0858548 (right) and 1K0858547 ( left ). About $20 at ECS. Best setup I've seen for a radar detector on our cars. The mount is very high quality, and IMO, worth the money.

Very Nice Looking dakim!

This looks like an excellent solution for most radar detectors, nice Job!

Unfortunately, for those of us who have a HUD for the Valentine V-1, this solution does not work to eliminate all wiring, as we still have to run a wire if we want to use the HUD get the direction indicator arrows below line of sight of the car behind us, for instance my V-1 HUD mounts of top center of the steering stem just below line of sight to the speedo. (I'd post my own pick if I could). But it's just like this little 2 inch display.

Had my V-1 for 8 years now, just sent it in and for my second update and for just a $200.00 upgrade fee they updated me to POP, new Laser, and the latest antenna (internal). BEL and Cincinnati Microwave can't do that (you just buy a new one of those each year they come out with a new model to keep those frequencies updated!)

If you don't want to bother with GPS memories and wireless syncs for map updates, the V-1 is top-dog IMHO. Has saved me countless times, covers up to nine independent detections (and directions) at once, a real ticket saver if you live in the city!

dakim, your installation looked very professional when done, nice job!:)

Did the cover just snap off?
Yes, the two halves snap apart easily. I used a small putty knife to pry them apart at the seam. Worked great - no worries. However, I have an Escort direct cable with in-line fuse which wouldn't fit in the mirror mount housing space as shown in the pictures. I ran the cables through the headliner and into the console area above the lights and sun roof control.

I used a sunroof motor mount screw for my ground lead, and I tapped the black/green wire going to the mirror that runs just on the driver side of the console area for the 12v power.

At first I tried the 12v power wire to the sunroof but it isn't suitable with not enough voltage or current so the mirror power worked best.

Thanks! I needed that. Took over a year for the answer to come. Too bad I may be forced to sell it soon due to a sale of the company I work for and impending layoffs. Thanks again!

AWESOME!! I was going to install a dashcam (I had one in my Beetle) but was looking for way to hide the wiring. I hope there's a bit of dead space in the overhead console for a DC/DC converter (5V).

Yes, there is a little space up there. The excess length of Passport direct connect cable and in-line fuse made a small bundle about 5" long and 1.5" diameter which easily fit in the space just to the right of the overhead console.
