Hi my name is jim and this is my first post. I have been reading the tdi forums for about 3 months now and have enjoyed them very much. I am curious about the lumbar part of the seat back. My wife and I have been wanting a tdi jetta and have driven couple. I love driving the 5spd. the dealer had a baltic blue one with tan interior, so we drove out to the dealership today to test drive this one and hopefully make a trade. After we test drove it we both were not very comfortable with the lumbar part of the seat on this paticular car. as I said before we have driven a couple before and did not notice this, so could it be just this car or have anyone out there had the same problem? I love driving the tdi but if the seat is going to hurt my back, I may have to keep what I got. I sure hope it was just this car, we came home without trying to make a trade on this car. again I really enjoy reading the tdi forum.

correction, it was a Galactic blue not baltic. I really wanted white or silver anyway, so I will wait on one of these colors. There are only 2 dealers in the entire state, so they can almost ask any price. but I refuse to pay over msrp for any car.

Question: was this a GL or a GLS. The GLS has a lumbar adjustment, thr GL does not. I have a bad back, a tight budget (2 in college) and bought the GL. I can always get a back support pillow (I have several) to fix that problem.

Second, IF you can find a TDI, you may just have to pay MRSP+. With gas at all time highs, this is the hottest car VW has to sell, and they won't discount them. Notice there is no subsidized financing on them like there is on regular Jettas/Golfs.

Biggeat problem in most of the country is even getting one to test drive because they are all aready sold.

I don't think all GLS's have lumbar supports - mine doesn't (2000 Golf GLS). Perhaps only the GLX/GTI have lumbar supports?

The lumbar adjustment mechanism on the side of the seat back, about half-way up.

The lumbar adjustment is made by rotating a dial on the exterior facing side of the seat. The upper dial is the lumbar adjustment the lower is the tilt. I don't knpow if this comes on the GL or not but it comes on the GLS.

Stoveman: this is a Jetta GLS and we could not find a lumbar adjustment knob. we might just have to use a small pillow as I now use in my 98 camry. The dealer also has a white Golf GLS,TDI, 5 spd with Monsoon, sun roof, I believe it is the luxury package, I am not for sure about that, but the price was $19,500.00, they have several NB TDI's also and 3 or 4 TDI Jetta"s.

You are right, the TDI's do not last very long as the word is getting out just how smooth they run and how much fun it is to drive, not even counting the great mileage.

Thanks again for all the replies

If the local dealers are charging too much go through an online company. Autobytel dropped the price of my car right away without haggling (I ended up buying it at the local dealer though), they also will take your trade in. Also, if you arn't too far away you could try calling an out of state dealer and deal over the phone, but ask for a fax when you come up with a number. From some of the stories I've heard a few people have flown halfway accross the country to pick up their car.

TDI ESEL: thanks, I did not know that it only comes with leather, your right, pity.

MIA: I have been thinking about an out of state dealer, Joplin,MO. about 2 hr drive, or Rogers, Ark. about 1 1/2 hrs or maybe Ok. City, okla. about 2 hrs also.
