I had a jetta GLS tdi manual trans almost ten years ago, she met a bitter end at the side of a car that pulled out in front of me. Anyway, my wife drives about 1 miles to work and goes to memphis once a week (60-70 miles round trip) so we got a sprint blue audi s4 cabriolet manual trans about four years ago. amazing car, looks, power, handling, everything but you need to be a saudi price to afford the gas for the thing! 225 miles to a tank was pretty much the best we could do, maybe 250 with straight highway driving.
Anyway, she is looking at new jobs in memphis, and kids maybe coming in the next year or two (just trying to practice a lot right now
) So we have been hunting a stickshift passat SE for a few months while trying to sell her car. Havent had any luck selling, dealers were being absurd on trade in (offering below black book price even!) we tried and tried to make a deal with our local dealer, wouldnt come down on their car or up on our trade so we lost a manual trans SE they had about three months ago, found one a few weeks ago down in dallas, same thing. well, we were out in the area for dinner and just stopped in to look again and they had a tungsten DSG SE with sunroof. Just so happens, she got stuck on a hill in her s4 and i had to come back it out for her so her love for the manual went "downhill" real quick. Anyway, it was about closing time and they made us a very fair offer, so we took her home!
We did cry a little bit about the audi but it was the right thing to do. The TDI is soooo much quieter, no cabby rattle, suspension is tight but not harsh, power is more than enough. Her dad is an old country boy and was puzzled by the TDI. He thought it would be short on power, loud, etc but now he is thinking about trading in his wife's old altima for one!
The salesman, bless his heart was this old guy and spent about 45 minutes going over every feature, trying to sync her phone etc. Super nice gesture. I was trying to explain the glowplug light to her and he said these didnt have glowplugs though
Weird because i drove it yesterday and it had one. Obviously, it didnt need but 1 second but still, he should have advised that in the winter, you may need to wait a few seconds for it to go out. They certainly arent like the old mercedes diesels but....
