Forgive a stupid newbie question...I have a light fog or haze on the inside of the windshield - particularly in the morning - right in the middle on the inside of the windshield. Two questions: Is there a possible cause other than a faulty heater core? Also, is there anyone else out there with the same experience ? A heater core seems unlikely on a new car (only 7000 miles). Thanks!

A heater core leak would be accompanied by a sweet smell. The film you see is likely just a buildup from the various materials in the car "curing". I am at 8000km (5000mi) and the film on my 2006 is just about to the point where I'll break out the windex and clean it:eek:

The plastics in the dash give off vapors which coat the windshield and need to be cleaned off periodically. A dashmat will help keep the windshield cleaner longer and protect your dash from UV rays and subsequent cracking.

Thanks for the replies - I feel better. The coolant isn't low either so I guess I just need to get a life. Thanks again.

Good information here, I have notices the smae thing in mine. I would have never thought that it was related to the plastic.

Will this "outgassing" as you mentioned stop over a period of time?

New Beetle, Jetta, one totaled Passat....RIP.
Our's is doing it also. Our Passat did it too. It's all the crap leaching from the new materials in the car(carpet, plastic, leather, etc.). Oh, it's in your lungs too :)

Keep in mind that your driving a diesel. They do make soot, even if you can't see it. I park in a garage. Everything gets a light layer of diesel soot. We had a sliding door cooler in there too. The diesel makes the food taste strange after a while too. My 86 diesel jetta got the film on the inside of the windows too.

It's the "new car smell" depositing itself on your windows. It happens in all cars to some extent. I had a '74 Mustang II that I literally had to clean the windows everyday, it was that bad!

Dang, I noticed that as well. I'm sad that it's my new car smell going away! I would buy new car smell air fresheners if I could find a good one :D

Unique...learn something new everyday. I've been dry wiping my winshield with my microfiber cloth at least two times per week. The bundle of blue ones at Sam's Club are nice cloths. Double thick and 25 for $12 bucks. Just wash them with very little soap (by themselves) and don't use dryer sheets on anything you touch your car with. They contain parafin wax...(also in the Cali car dusters) not what you want to damp wipe your dash and seats or dry wipe your windows with.
