Just saw this article. He's supposedly "agreed" to sell his shares...
The story goes he caught wind of the cheating (before the scandal went public) and attempted to get Winterkorn ousted. But other board members, as the article stated, stuck behind Winterkorn and kind of forced Piech's hands. He wanted nothing to do with being associated with an emissions cheating scandal.

And now Winterkorn has resigned himself after the cheating went public...

None of the big old VW characters are surviving this too well.

I think Piech is fed up, frustrated, and is washing his hands of Volkswagen. A pretty incredible move after such a long legacy with some incredible vehicles being introduced. Volkswagen's direction has changed quite a lot after Piech.

At 80 years old, he needs to unload the $1.0 B worth of stock he owns. If he was my father I would recommend it and stay close to him for when the goose lays the golden egg on me!
