almus, if you don't mind, could you post some pictures of your work (and perhaps give a bit description of your work)?
My Golf has rusted rockers and the fenders need to be replaced. So far my options are to shell out $2,600 for the repairs or just live with it: it's such a nice car otherwise that I really would like to fix this.
Online dealers or partsbase.org are good places to go when looking for part numbers.
The car is a 2001 jetta sedan that I have had since new. About 350k on
her now. We are just finishing up right now. Sorry I did not take photos,
as this was one of those fixits that needed to get done---
sort of like why you don't take photos while your boat is sinking.
I have all but formally bequeathed the car to my son.
I need to use my garage and for other car tasks and want it OUT!
I did not replace the entire rockers. Just about 6 " on the front.
Both sides. Rest of rocker is good.
I did not buy rockers and cut off the part I needed but
rolled my own. In retrospect, it would have been better to buy the rockers
at about 50@ and just cut what I need---as they have all
the required holes and mounting.
I have all the toys to do it, though I am not by any means a pro.
Mig, grinders, Whitney hole punches, Beverly shear etc.
I had to remove fenders, doors, fender liners and then just cut out the cancer, Then just formed and rolled pieces to fit. I did not butt weld, but
did rosette welds and then used seam sealer and a cheap
hand nibbler (amazing tool!!!) to make the rectangular holes for the speed nuts.
If I had to replace the entire rocker, I am not sure what I would do
apart from park the car somewhere else and not block my garage.
