Fender rust and fender benders

Had a little fender bender in a roundabout last evening. I hate those people that say, "you mean I was supposed to yield at that yield sign?". I noticed that where the front fender was crunched there is quite a bit of rust under the paint. Surprised as it's at the top of the fender. Guess the VW rust program doesn't really matter as it's the other guy's insurance that will be paying.

My right side fender was rusting from the inside out due to the foam sound insulation. I have since torn out the insulation, sanded and sprayed the rust with rust inhibitor and a coating or fiberglass resin on both sides. I recently repainted the whole fender; so time will tell if this holds up or not.

Try phosphoric acid to de-rust!
