Hey folks,

I have a 1999 Jetta TDI that I'm considering parting with. The car has 240k miles on it which are almost exclusively highway miles, I do very little city driving. I have changed the oil every 10k and used full synthetic every time.

The car does have a few issues that need to be fixed just so you know what you're getting into. It needs a new alternator and the exhaust pipe is broken. It's also due for a timing belt change, I have the kit but it hasn't been done yet.

Anybody interested for around $3000? I am located in Jackson, MI. Pics will be available soon.

I sent you a pm.

Would there be any other maint. items to be addressed soon; such as, brakes & tires? Have you had a compression test or inspected for camshaft wear recently?
Thanks,

I also saw from your post history, that you replaced the alt. over 3 years ago. They can go bad that fast? Also, which part of the exhaust needs fixed?

Has it really been 3 years? Wow. The behavior is exactly the same as the last time I replaced it. The battery light starts blinking and eventually the car dies once the battery runs out of power.

Right now I have snow tires on it but I will want those back most likely. I have the regular tires still and they still have some life left on them.

I'm pretty sure the exhaust is broken where it connects to the cat. It doesn't affect how the car runs it just makes it louder and you get a bit of exhaust fumes up front. :)

I have not done a compression test or anything like that but I was planning to let my mechanic check everything out during the timing belt change.
