Comments: This trip was 99+% highway at mostly 50-55 MPH.
Car spent approx. 4-Hours idling during the 900 mile trip.
Each leg was approx. 44 miles. Next trip driving like a maniac only yielded 40 MPG and 649 miles. This is an increase of 41.5% (40 MPG to 56.6MPG) just due to driving habits. I have experienced similar % increases on my 1995 5.7 extended cab Silverado Pickup. Maniac MPG = 15. Hypermile MPG = 21. Again, same route. Conclusion...

IMPROVE OUR MILEAGE IS ABSOLUTELY FREE...SLOW

This is a month by month competition. Every time you make an entry it will be added up and recorded together according to the fuel type and car/year you are driving.
THIS IS NOT an individual tank competition (or a partial tank competition for that matter).

Entries will be accepted until MARCH 5th 2009, but remember, report tanks FILLED IN FEBRUARY.

US GALLONS AND MILES

TRANNY TYPES:
(x) A = x speed automatic
(x) M = x speed manual *
DSG = direct-shift gearbox
CVT = continuously variable transmission
* if you have swapped in a taller 5th gear please noted this (ie: 5M w/.681)

FUEL TYPES:
Bx = biodiesel - x is the percentage of bio
Biodiesel use equal to, or more than B20, will be indicated in GREEN.
ULSD / LSD / D2 = normal petroleum based diesel
Also please note if it's winterized
- please note if you are using a fuel additive (ie: ULSD +PS)
- - Power Service (PS); Stanadyne (ST); Redline (RL)

Posts not in format will not be tallied / corrected. If I have to do any editing to get your post in format (or to get the correct name), it will not be counted. Feel free to correct your own posts to get them in format.

Please do not go back and add additional fillups to a post. Multiple fillups per post is fine as long as all fillups are in format. If the driver name is not the same as your post name - this will be considered "Not in format" and will not be counted. Only exceptions would be "and spouse" etc.

That's because "01M" is the wrong format. There are others with the correct "4A" nomenclature in this situation. Most TDIs with worse MPG than you are MK Vs too.

This has been a disastrous month. I got a bad load of fuel that filled my fuel filter with crud and had to be replaced; had to replace my battery and finally, with the glow plug light blinking all the time the fault was traced to a bad glow plug harness. I usually get 55-62 mpg.

Also someone else needs to step up for doing March 2009. Bob Fout and me have been swapping this back and forth the last couple months, but some of you others should try this out once as well. Just start the thread, you can cut / paste from the first post of this thread. Bob or me either one would be glad to answer questions.
