Failing Tandem Pump?

Hey folks,

2005 Passat, brakes work fine except for on cold start. Shifting into park the car will start rolling and there are a few panicked seconds as the car lurches forward and I'm frantically jamming on a rock hard pedal. Brakes work absolutely fine subsequent to that, it just takes a few seconds after initial startup / shift into drive.

So...failing tandem pump? 197K, but if I can avoid replacing and if it could just be a gasket or something along those lines I'd be interested After this weekend there's a nice big hole where the GRM used to be (and a coming hole in my wallet), so now's the time to do it from an access standpoint, although maybe not from a financial one.

Thanks!

This happened to me last week. First three pushes on the brake pedal were hard (no vacuum) then power brakes work fine and have since that one time? I'm also interested to know why.

First verify there are no vacuum leaks as a that can also cause a hard brake pedal as well as a failing master cylinder.
