What did VW change on the facelift version of mk7? I've seen it called mk7.5 so I guess there was more than just some minor changes?

On the gassers they went to a 7 speed DSG, not sure on the TDI since we only had one year of Mk7 TDI (2015 so pre-facelift). Headlights (and therefore bumper and front fenders) are a different shape. Front radar moved behind the emblem instead of in the lower grill. Different tail lights... but same shape so they can be retrofit to Mk7 if you want. Rear bumper has different lower section/valence. The overall rear bumper is the same shape though so you could put a facelift rear bumper on an pre-facelift car... would be a decision on cosmetics only.

Later modules with more capabilities... technically better radar and camera, later gateway and BCM support RGB ambient lighting.

Google has all the pictures you could want. I think the pre-facelift Golf bumpers (front and rear) look better. But I like the facelift GTI/R bumpers better.

Thanks! We may replace our 2014 Golf but it'll probably be to a gasser so I think I'll check out the other Golf sites on the webs...

Therefore the 7 & 7.5/Facelift does not apply to ANY TDI's? I am asking because there is a thread about aftermarket headlights in this specific forum that mentions the word facelift.

Yeah - facelift headlights in our non-facelift cars won't work without replacing all of the body panels up front.

There are TDIs out there (i.e., countries that are *not* US/CAN) that were still being made during the facelift time period, so as a blanket statement "does not apply to ANY TDIs" isn't entirely accurate.

It is common for the aftermarket to offer "mk7.5 style" headlights that look like the new ones (fancy LED DRL) but still have the dimensions that fit the mk7 fenders/bumper/grill.

Check out BMPtuning I think they bought up the rights to the vendor that was supplying Ed's Reps, and they offer MK7 headlights that look like mk7.5 with LED bulbs and all the fancy wiz bang stuff.

I believe you can also source mk 7.5 style LED tails that a much cheaper than the actual euro OEM mk7 led tails.

@whizznbyu I think they got you covered. I could have been more clear. In the US we didn't get a 7.5 (facelift) TDI. But when talking about new things in the facelift most (although not all) of it will bolt on/plug in with the exception of headlights. The different shape means you also have to replace bumper, fenders and grill (to say nothing of electronics).

Plenty of Mk7.5 style headlights for the Mk7 though. They are often listed as "facelift headlights for the Mk7" which sort of confuses things. But they are all Mk7 (pre-facelift) shaped lights, regardless of how the internal housing looks.

@740GLE The various reps will (or may) have LED bulbs, even HID's are an option. I'm not sure I'd call that fancy. The fancy stuff would be the adaptive features (auto height adjustment, left/right pointing when cornering). I have not seen any reps that offer those features, and don't think there will be. At that point you're talking about a lighting package retrofit... fully possible and well documented to be sure... but not in the least big plug and play like the various reps. Which generally speaking are plug and play for cars with the base halogen lights. I've not seen (nor do I expect to ever see) a plug and play replacement for any lighting package equipped cars... as even the best reps would be a downgrade.

By fancy i ment cooler more modern looking DLRs than the stock halogen mk7 set up.

There were the Golf R style with the double U set up, now they have the double nike swooshes.

I know... but I don't know how to post images here... @Nuje has schooled me, I did not learn.
Failure of the teacher? Or the pupil? Enquiring minds want to know. :D
(A couple of the aforelinked-to-GolfMk7.com images of @Cuzoe's steed, showing off DRLs of the Osram lights.)

And for the record, "hockey-stick-shaped" is not too far away, at least according to the venerable HNIC logo. :)

I got a set from Ed of British Columbia that looks just like these on your picture: hockey stick, with the yellow turn signal that "whooshes" R or L. My passenger side HIGH beam for some reason pointed lower within a year or two of installation & I cannot make our any adjustment knobs. Is there a way to take the headlight out, open it up and maybe superglue the droopy side?

The Osrams have adjustment knobs for height. I'll have to look but one is in the back and one may be on the bottom.
They are a sealed unit so no official way to open them. Nothing "user" replaceable in the Osrams. I suspect an oven and some pry tools would do it but I wouldn't do it.

Are yours Osrams or are you just saying they look the same? I would assume most aftermarket headlights have some sort of adjustment capability but I can't speak to it. Some of the aftermarket housings allow switching of LED/HID which would likely mean there is a real way to open them up.

I've never seen the BEC (Ed's) lights in person, but the video below (I haven't watched it closely, or through to the end) makes it look like it should be pretty easy to pop 'em open with that little latch near the top here.
(Also: golfmk7.com thread where Ed was providing status updates; he's out of the biz now, but you might find other owners who might be able to answer specific questions.)
