I'm new to the tdi crowd. fuel prices forced me to park my duramax.I now have Jetta wagon for my estimate and service vehicle. I had Jeff Tune my 03 wagon(rc2) about a month ago. I wanted to encourage anyone thinking of having it done to DO IT.:Dmy 03 wagon had 208k on her when i brought her home. Cleaning the intake and egr made her driveable. Jeff made her fun!!I had a smile from ear to ear the WHOLE 2 hour ride home:). MPH went up 2 points. With fuel prices what they are ,we can,t afford not to retune. If you're thinking of doing a rocketchip tune,DO IT!! You won't regret it .P.S. on the test drive,Jeff noticed my turbo was over boosting. He fixed the sticking actuator rod.Another week or two and I would've "lunched"the turbo. He saved my turbo. Just that alone was worth the trip and the cost of the tune. Hat's Off to Rocketchip Performance !!!!

I'm going to get a Rocketchip tune this summer. What should I get? Stock ALH 5 spd wagon with new T-4 nozzles, 362K miles. I also want to put in the .658 5th gear before the tune, to help a little with highway fuel economy. Still have the original turbo, but could upgrade to 17/22 someday. For now, though, I'm most interested in max fuel economy.

With T-4s and a tune you'll need a clutch if you don't have an upgraded one already. I trust at 356K miles it's not original. I'd be interested in hearing what Jeff says about tuning with a turbo with that many miles on it.

I picked up the car last fall at 349K, used at a dealer, and just crossed 362K. They had all the service records from the original owner. As near as we can tell, it still has the original clutch and turbo, at least there was no record of them being worked on.

After I got the car, I took it up to Marty Bergel and he did the TB change, and found the nozzles to be shot, so I got the T-4's. He said the turbo had no slop at all but needed a new actuator. He cleaned the intake, said the cam looked great, and there was no need to do anything else.

I took a chance on this high miles car but so far, it looks like I made out well. I'm on my second 900 mile tank!

Yes, when the clutch starts slipping, I'll get a new one (Southbend). If the turbo acts up, probably I'll go with the 17/22.

Loving the car!

Go with an RC@+ or an RC3. Jeff will know.

Mine's stock and I have an RC2+. Planning on getting Titan nozzles, then probably an RC3 tune.

RC is a good way to go but so are the other tuners often referenced here. RC is in Pennsylvania & unless you find him at a G2G you have to send your ECU to him. Kerma, Malone & TDTuning offer hand held loaders so you can do it yourself in the car.

with the cost of the tune being around $450 and gaining 2mpg, how many miles of driving will it take to see the breakeven point?

ON a side note I have RCIV (24psi tune) hiding under my hood just waiting to be taken to the max :D

Does anyone get tuned for milage increases? :p

Seriously, almost no milage mods will ever pay for themselves except maybe LRR tires (since you have to get tires anyways). Tuning is for the fun and drivability, not milage. And yes, some people have reported milage gains, but those are minimal and are subject to the placebo effect.

What up with everyone trying to trying to make back the cost of their upgrade by increased MPG?

You know when you tune a Gasoline IC based car your millage may and will drop.

Do the tune for the thrill you will get driving a faster Diesel car! The MPG is just icing!

I had mine tuned at 337,073 on the original turbo and Jeff never said a thing.

I did need a clutch after the tune and still love the South Bend.

I thought for sure rocketchip was out of business.... check out the website, it's still talking about events from summer of 2010 and warning possible clients of vacation week that they took June of 2010. If they're still around, it would give me more confidence to see them update their website. I've also sent a couple of emails with no response. From what i've read it sounds like this is the best tune available, they just need to get their act together with the website. Maybe they do more on facebook or something, if anyone knows please chime in...

Jeff will email you back, he doesn't keep much of an online presence. Check the local section he attends GTGs regularly. You've got to be patient with him though.

Crap just get a big boy tune, just kidding, I have had the RC6 for about two years now and just wow. I also run B100 that i cook up in my garage and fuel only cost about 90 cents a gal. What you all complaining about cost for? Have about 100,000 on the B100. I cook it correctly.

I highly recommend Jeff at RocketChip! He's great at explaining everything and gets you "up-and-running" in a very reasonable amount of time!
