Just replaced the evaporator core on my Audi a3. Figured I'd post a little about it just for reference on in case others needed advice on how it's done. First bit of advice is to get the factory manual from Erwin. The dash needs to be pulled, the steering column needs to be dropped, the center console needs to be pulled, the front seats need to be removed, the carpet needs to be pulled back, then you have to remove the dash cross member. Once that is done you can remove the whole AC assembly out of the car. This allows you to then separate the top from the bottom and extract the evaporator. Install is reverse of removal.
I thank God that I was able to do this. I know most would have not gone through this on a car with 140k but I got it at such a good price and wasn't willing to give up. AC blows cold now.
All this because of a botched TXV replacement and they damaged the evaporator lines during the install. When I went to replace the TXV myself after putting in a new compressor and condenser I was unable to pull a vacuum. Total time for the job was about 30hrs. Feel free to reach out to me if anyone is deciding to do this job. I'll try to post some pictures in a few days.
