Forgive the totally n00b question, but what
exactly does installing a "euro switch" buy you??

I assume you also need to replace your headlights
to get the added functions?
I wonder what that costs...

I am with kduster. For someone who is running a stock lighting system, what would be required for the conversion to a EuroSwitch? Driving/fog lights of some sort? If so how plug and play user-friendly a.k.a. idiot proof is it to convert w/ or w/o driving/fog lights?

It's for those who wish to wire up fog lights... otherwise it's a pretty useless upgrade.

You also can turn off your headlights when driving which we cannot do with NA switch. The only thing that turns them off is to set the handbrake. Might want to do this sometime like to keep from shining lights in neighbors windows etc...

GroupBuy Is Going On 131 switches in stock

-----------------------------------------------------------
I had the idea to introduce the euroswitch cheaper than anyone else evere did 2 years ago, so if it wasn't for me I pretty much think EVERYONE would still be paying 70$+ for them. Buy from who has been selling helping the VW community for 2 years now

Can I interrupt the pissing contest for a moment to ask if this euroswitch is the same as is used in the A3 GLX Jettas (part no: 1HM 941 531 Q)? Thanks.

If I run a stock lighting system is there any additional wiring needed to convert switches or can I just pop old one out and plug new one in? If it is that easay I would seriouisly consider picking one up for $29.

The switches are great, and essential if you want to add front and/or rear fogs. Unlike the US switch which has only a front fog setting, this has both front and rear.
You will need to add wiring for both front and rear fogs but it's not hard and has been documented in the Mk IV FAQ which you can find on vwvortex, or search threads here.

I don't have fog's, but I got it so I can run just my parking lights. To do that you do have too disable the DRL's. That is also quite easy, just put a layer of two of electrical tape over the TFL pin on the switch, either the standard or euro and it shuts them off. Don't get me wrong, I turn them on a lot, but I just couldn't stand to have them on in the middle of the day in full sun.

In any case with the regular switch it is all or nothing, but with the euro switch you can turn on parking/running and then headlights.

And to swap them is as simple as pulling it out and putting in the new one, no rewiring necessary.

Of course if you add fogs you have to rewire and add the euro switch.

And last but not least the euro switch looks cooler and has more lights on it

Brock,

Thank You for the useful information.
By the way for all of you ordering today, I will ship them again on monday.
I shipped around 60 switches yesterday.

These switches are not the same as the Jetta III switches.

I received my new switch. So, it is plug-and-play, how do you remove the old switch?

Hacksaw.

Just kidding.

From the OFF position, grab it as if you are going to turn it on and push IN and TURN right. The 'knob' should push in and turn slightly and stop. This releases the catches and you should be able to pull the whole thing out of the dash.

The switch took 20 seconds to change. Push, twist, pull from the dash and unplug.

Now, how do I disable the main headlights when the hand-break is down? The headlights come on just as before. Best/easiest way?

Ah! the ol' DRL problem.

Try a search here on on the Lighting forum at vwvortex.

Basically there are two approaches:

a. using electrical tape, cover the TFL pin on the light switch.

b. remove the DRL relay.
b.1. since removing the relay also kills the BRAKE lamp, you can go further by opening the relay cover and remove the guts, leaving the diode, then putting the gutted relay back restoring the BRAKE lamp.

SeNNa,

Received mine today, thanks!

Stupid question: There are three rotary positions,
off, "parking", and on.

There appears to be two more positions that are
for fog lights (?), but I don't see how to activate
them. The switch doesn't rotate to those positions.

Can someone enlighten me??
