VW Transporter 2.5TDI ACV
Hi all,

I've trawled the wealth of information on these forums, but can't find an answer to my very specific question, so hopefully another "which oil?" thread won't cause too much offence!

I've got a 2000 VW Transporter T4, sold in the US as the Eurovan, running the 2.5TDI (ACV variant). In the country for a year having brought the van with me from Europe, and am about to embark on a long (circa 20k miles) trip across the States. I'll be completing an oil & filter change before we go, but for peace of mind will want to do at least one while we're on the road. The prevailing wisdom for these engines, many of which are now in the 250-400k mile bracket (including mine) is that they should run 10W-40 semi-synthetic oil, which meets VW spec 505.

I've just taken delivery of an order of Ravenol which meet these specs (https://www.blauparts.com/ravenol-motor-oil-10w-40-tsi-5l.html) for the pre-departure oil change, but am looking for something which will be a little easier to get hold of on the road. For obvious reasons there doesn't seem to be much available in the US which meets these specs, but something which can be picked up off the shelf would be ideal. So...does anybody have any ideas?!

Thanks very much.

Pretty much any 5w40 oil you find anywhere will be just fine for your transporter. Shell Rotella, Chevron Delo, and Mobil1/Delvac1 are all commonly available/popular and of high quality.
