Success!!! I managed to solder in a white LED I salvaged from a WalMart knight light I had disassembled at one time. These are 5mm and I have no idea what their voltage rating is. I went ahead and changed D10 to the same white LED and all is well. Desoldering a circuit board proved to be very tricky even though I have the proper equipment. Now both front and rear are much more noticeable when the switch is pulled out. I also had to remove the face plate to see how the wider LED's would fit; then I proceded to Dremel the inside of the case to make the necessary room. I prefer this to filing down an LED. Many thanks to the response to my initial request and also a special thankyou to DanG144 whom I had asked for a source for 3mm yellow LED's. As it turns out the vendor requires a $15.00 minimum charge, and they would not make an acception.
