Looks pretty similar. That's definately not the same switch being that's in the golf.

With those large contacts, the switch is probably driving the lights directly rather than just signaling the cecm like the golfs. If that's the case, I'm not sure where you'd run a trigger wire.

That's right. I want to find someone local that has the Mk4 switch, or at this point just get one and if it doesn't work return it. However, I don't want to blow anything up.

Ok, so how did someone supposedly do this?

And to add to the confusion or maybe clear it up (thanks to mo_focus) an A6 Golf/Golf wagen/JSW switch won't work in an A6 Jetta sedan.

An A4 headlght switch does not work on the A6
A4 switch does not work in the Jetta or Jetta Wagon? Those two are two different cars! I think you are mistaken Jetta Wagon(golf Wagon) with Jetta Sedan!

Jetta Wagon has the same wiring as the Golf which means mk5 golf/jetta and mk6 golf switch WILL work.

Jetta sedan has different wiring and mk4 switch should work!

mo_focus, you are right.

A6 Golf/Golf wagen/JSW switch WILL NOT work in A6 Jetta sedan.

That previous post I was worried that it might cause confusion, not only because of different car designation (A4 and A6 - I think of Audi - not chassis designation), but of possible wrong information, and my post didn't help as much as I thought (since edited).

I am hesitant to buy a MkIV(A4) switch for fear of melting something. Short of it is, I don't want to be the guinnea pig stuck holding the repair bill. :D

Thanks again!

I have had an A5 Jetta and an A5 Jetta Sportwagen and I have had an A4 jetta the A5 switch will not work on an A5 car .

By the way the Sportwagen is an A5 not an A6.

Don't order that one. That will only work on the sportwagen and golf.

In regards to A5 and A6, acoording to the forum, the 2010 golf was an A6 - which the sportwagen is based off of. I will give you that it's the same platform as the A5 but the 2010+ Golf/sportwagen is designated A6. Also, you are talking about two different beasts - sportwagen and the Jetta sedan do not have same headlight switches. The headlight switch on the A6 Jetta sedan is more like the A4 Jetta than anything else.

are you sure.....;) This argument has been going on for awhile..The Sportwagen is an A5! the difference is the dashboard and some of the electronics......when you order parts it gets very confusing....
As far as I am concerned it is a A5. The A6 Golf is a completely different car....very few parts will interchange...
And the A6 Jetta Sedan is a completely different animal! I was told by a reliable source the the A6 Golf euro Switch would work on a 2011 Jetta if it doesn't I stand corrected!

The Golf and Sportwagen share the same switch. It looks nothing like the switch that TDI_Timmy pulled from his car.

The North American Jetta is supposed to have a lot of Polo electronics in it, so it might be a Polo switch. It's described here as looking like the MkIV switch, which is what TDI_Timmy's switch looks like.

Just going on this:

I will give you that it's the same platform as the A5 but the 2010+ Golf/sportwagen is designated A6.
Also, like I said - even the MkVI (A6) Golf is based on the Mk5 (A5) Golf as is the MkVI (A6)Golf wagen/JSW based on the Mk5 (A5) Golf wagen/JSW - not saying that the Golf and Golfwagen (estate or Variant) are the same platform or car. The whole thing with A6 and MkVI seems to go hand in hand as A5 is to MkV and A4 is to MkIV...etc. Just wish that they stayed with either the A number or the Mark number.:D

Sorry to get OT. :)

About the golf variant from Wiki:
A facelifted variant (MK6) model was introduced in 2010, despite carrying the front fascia and interior styling from the new Golf, the underpinnings are based on its fifth generation predecessor.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Golf_Variant#2009.E2.80.93present

About the Golf from Wiki:
Volkswagen based the latest Golf Mk6 on the existing PQ35 platform from the Golf Mk5.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Golf#Golf_Mk6_.28A6.2FTyp_5K.2C_2009.E2.80.93present.29

With this in mind, I am not arguing that Wikipedia is always right, but just to clarify what I was trying to get at. Unfortunately, even using an existing platform they [VW] decided it was a new generation with the face lifted sheet metal - unlike previous generations that had a new platform along with new sheet metal. But why mess up a good thing?:D

Did my testing and took it back out because I do not trust the Craftsmanship.

Now that it is Confirmed I will will put out the money for the real McCoy..

First place I checked - I thought I found one for 54 somewhere. I'll keep checking.

And just to confirm - you did this on your 2011 Jetta right? Sorry to keep this going. :)

Note: That one is 54 - I think that was the lowest price I found.
Note 2: Just read your other post. This is awesome!

Also, could you put some pics up? Something to look forward too.

Would love to see the fogs on with parking lights and that should include the small city lights that are in the high beam reflector. Thanks John!

Another solution for DRL's?

I just purchased a new 2011 Golf TDI with Xenon lighting. The DRL's work through the low beams cutting short the life span of the ballasts and expensive bulbs. Could I jump the wires to the hand brake switch, thus turning the accursed things off? The dealer won't disable them for me. I don't have access to a Vagcom tool and the light switch is $$$. Also, my car does not have parking lights, so if I do install the euro switch will it kill the DRL's?

You could do that but you'll have to listen to "DING! DING! DING!!" and the MFA will flash "WARNING!!! PARKING BRAKE ON!!!" repeatedly while driving.

If you don't have access to VagCom, look for a Get ToGether in your area, or contact alphaseinor in Frisco, or Jetta ,97 in Plano.

I wish I could help. Unfortunately the way our DRLs work is different. On the Jetta sedan the DRLs turn on as soon as ignition is switched on.

I thought the DRLs on Xenon cars were the inside high beam bulb.

In regards to parking lights I am pretty sure you would have those, just no way of turning them on by themselves with the North American switch. With the ignition off turn the headlights on and see what lights are on in the housings. I have a feeling they will be your parking lights.

Although, I could be way off as I haven't really messed with the Xenon lights on the Golf.

It did. And as I suspected it was the wrong switch. If you want I can email you our correspondence. Just kind of irritating when being so clear and they assure me they have the Euro Switch for the MkVI sedan.

I am wondering if anyone has an updated version of ETKA for the 2011 Jetta sedan. I have no idea if the Jetta slated for Europe has different wiring than the North American Jetta.

Anyways, called them and they said they would look into it and then email me back. Didn't hear back from them today - and not sure what they will look into - they sell a switch for the Jetta sedan that is for the Golf/JSW plain and simple. When I ask for a refund I wonder if I should ask for a refund of my shipping charges too since they seem to be ignorant to the sufferer models.

CHEAPEST!! Says "Genuine part."..which could mean well genuine ANYTHING.
Do you think you could lightly sand down the chrome to look like the Mk6's brushed trim or just use a newer knob if you can...yes I'm that OCD.

http://www.vaglink.com/VAG/Jetta_Bora_MK4_Euro_Switch_Passat_CC_Style_Jetta_Bora_MK4.htm

I am that OCD too - and did get the switch from parts4euro as well - seems pretty legit. Just that the chrome is shiny. Tried taking it apart and got the two pieces separated but that is as far as I got. Works like a charm, just really want that brushed chrome. Maybe rubbing compound? Haven't tried it and holding out for an actual switch for our cars - see above post.

Hmm, sucks they told me it would be correct, luckily I haven't ordered it yet. I emailed them about it when I saw it listed and they said it would work on the sedan, makes me wonder about the fog light retrofit kit they sell for the sedan also...
