I finally made it through a full tank that was what I would call "normal" use -- all driving (aka no extended periods of idling), and a decent mix of highway and stop and go -- no urban where I live, but my commute has 4 intersections and speeds ranging from 25 to 45 (legally 55, but no one ever manages that speed). Also with new vacuum lines installed, so no vacuum leaks mugging up the performance. The powertrain is stock with the exception of no cat, with a fresh head, turbo, timing parts and rod bearings.

The math says over 40 mpg. I think I got more fuel in the tank this fill up than last, so somewhere between 42 and 44 probably (667 miles, 15 or 16 gallons).

I'm pretty happy with that. It means that my usual routine will result in needing fuel no more often than every 3 weeks, probably closer to 4 weeks most of the time. That's why I bought the car.
