InterestingI may be wrong, but my dealer says it ends in may because whatever isn't sold goes back in June.

That wouldn't make much sense. They'd be throwing money away for no reason. I would assume the dealer is trying to create more urgency. I'm just gonna keep relaxing. Most of the hype will be dead in a couple of weeks or less and then they will just have unclaimed cars on the lot that they need to get realistic about. I'm losing out on selection but I'm willing to risk it because the pricing just doesn't make sense to me at this point.I may be wrong, but my dealer says it ends in may because whatever isn't sold goes back in June.
I have no valid argument, nor no other information. I can say that my dealer is not however trying to create urgency. He said he will gladly hold the car until June for me if I want. Lots of misinformation floating around, and mine may be just that. That wouldn't make much sense. They'd be throwing money away for no reason. I hope VW re-enters the diesel market in the USA at some point. 2019 would be great but I don't expect that.Close call for me, but like others, 2015s do not meet my price point, especially when the 2017 1.8T offers decent torque and mileage in same price range.
If the TDIs don't drop further, I'll probably hold off until 2018 and look at low mileage 2017s....or check out VW's 2019 diesels!
Thanks for all the info and help. Figured I would post an update of my findings thus far as they pertain for the GSWs:
-of the MANY dealers I called, four of them were offering the $5K discount for a sale but only after they marked up their MSRP $1k-3k. Nope.
-no dealer I've spoken to would include the $1000 loyalty incentive. Or other incentive programs.
-one dealer initially offered 1% financing for 72 months but I insisted that they do 0% because literally everyone else is and they budged on that.
-one dealer (of 16 mind you) wanted to play ball and offered more than the 5k. Most are holding firm and going NO WHERE beyond the 5k. Good luck out there.
-maybe this was mentioned already and I'm not sure this is the case everywhere: the $5K is a rebate and thus, the sales tax is taken off of the sales price PRIOR to the rebate. Common? Or BS?
-overall, the dealers have moved a few of these over the last few days. But perhaps an equal number of these GSWs that were "spoken for" before the incentives were released have now become available!
-Conditions of the vehicles I've seen is pretty good relative to how they were stored. They aren't perfect though; all of water spots, bird poop stains etc that probably will require paint and clear coat correction. It's a pain to polish those out if bad. Also green moss/algae was common. Nothing else notable. Dealers seemed to be on board with making things right at least.
I have mine picked out and the price I want. So I'm happy!

Well, today I changed my mind and, for better or worse, good or bad, made the deal on a 2015 Jetta TDI S with Connectivity and will do the buyback on my 2011 Jetta TDI. Pretty much a straight across swap except for the TT&L and usual dealer fee. The 2015 window sticker is $23,825 or so. The dealer held at the $5,000 discount so price is $18,000 whatever. The buyback on my 2011 is $17,749 plus $350 from Bosch, plus a $974 check from Geico for a kid smacking the back of the Jetta so I'm a couple hundred to the good until the TT&L, etc. hits.
My 2011 has the factory roof leak, basic nav, keyless start and fake leather seats which the 2015 does not have. However: The 2011 has almost 94,000 miles and the 2015 has 113 miles. My intent when buying the 2011 was to drive it until totally worn out, and not worry about resale, trade-in, etc. Still my plan, but now I have erased almost 94,000 miles and and gained 4 years at no cost except the inevitable taxes and fees. Plus I get a new car warranty and the better engine.
Why didn't I wait for a better deal? Wife is only happy with black on black and this was the only one the dealer had (or so they said, but I had not even mentioned a color choice at that point). If I waited for a better deal, I may not find what she likes or what I like. We're both happy with this car. Plus, we now live in western Idaho just a few miles from Oregon and if some doped up pothead were to crash into and total my 2011 while I'm waiting for a fix which may never happen, I would probably get half of what the VW buyback pays!
So the dealer held on to them in inventory for 2 years, now they'll go back if not sold in a month or so..................I may be wrong, but my dealer says it ends in may because whatever isn't sold goes back in June.

How do you figure the dealers "held on" to them? What other options did they have? VW bought back every loaner and demo the dealers had, but made them sit on the new ones.So the dealer held on to them in inventory for 2 years, now they'll go back if not sold in a month or so..................
My wife was considering a GSW with stick, but apparently someone already bought the three that were in New England. If this thread and customers I've been talking to all week are any indication these cars are moving. I think by early May most of the desirable configurations will be gone. I think our local dealer as already sold all the TDIs he had.

while the others are trying to hold on, low ball, get the " real" discount from the dealers I pulled the trigger and secured 2 GSW 6 sp manuals. I didnt put the deposit earlier, but when I wanted to all of the cars with the 6 sp were deposited for but one silver which wasnt my choice. Thanks to some b1tching customers who did deposit in advance, made a nice choice but tried to get a " better" deal two vehicles freed up yesterday and White and United Grey both with black interiors are mine. I also inquired about the silver one that was available but was told there are people in line with the second or third deposits for it already and people are calling from out of state about them. So I highly doubt there will be any cars available for more discount than they offer now, unless this is some kind of the least desireable trim/tran/ color combination. Also the local dealers are not willing to hold the car for you for a long time, they are pretty much giving a deadline to the customers who put deposits to make up their minds in a day or two.
This is what I'm talking about. People can complain about pricing all they want, but the frustrating thing with buying any TDI is that there's often someone out there who'll pay more for the car then you're willing to pay.My wife was considering a GSW with stick, but apparently someone already bought the three that were in New England.
Thinking, Guessing, Hoping you passed on the craapppollla paint issue cars``` snip `````

Respectfully asking
What is different today, on these particular cars, than any other regular car buying situation? Buyer beware is good today, and always will be.
IMO. The car anyone has spotted out there, may, or may not be a fine conditioned unit.
Almost funny to wonder about 2 or more persons, bidding up the price, on a (black color) unit, that may have had paint repairs on 99 bird dropping stains
My dealer now tells me that other dealers are calling him offering to buy his entire 2015 fleet. Must be from dealers that will not budge off of MSRP.
