engine replacement other than bhw

has anyone dropped a newer common rail engine into ab5.5 passat to replace a blown bhw ? can it be done?

not that i'm aware of.....but of course it "can be done" :)
once the longitudinal (BHW) vs. transverse (CJAA) hurdle is cleared, i'm sure the rest is not too hard.

there is a company, Boxeer, that has a kit to mount CR diesels into VW vanagons longitudinally.
might be worth looking @ their kit and some threads over @ thesamba.com.
people also mount ALH, 1Z, BHW, etc into all kinds of conversions, i'm sure you know.

I was thinking that I'd have to go to the other side of the pond to do it, in the mean time the car i was looking at turned out to be trashed body wise , so i have to keep looking. Need a good body otherwise its not worth doing,
