Hi all,

I just 98% disassembled the front-end to my '01 Golf in preparation to remove the block. I should have evacuated the A/C before doing this, but it is too late now, and have read of others (and been told) it's possible to move the lines/front aside, and just hang the compressor.....

Just wondering, how do you get around the lines that are connected to the receiver/dryer on the passenger side? It seems the lines are connected to the front. Can they be removed?

Thanks,

-glenn

They are. Just undo the front lock carrier and pivot the front end on those hoses, there will be plenty of room.

Yup, don't remove the hoses, just unbolt the compressor from the engine and free up the condenser from its mount, then swing both out of the way to the left, hoses and all.

With the lock carrier removed the engine/tranny will slide right out the front on a rolling hydraulic jack, past the compressor and condenser.

Nero, thank you for letting me know they are removable, I plan on checking that area next.

Ahhh Vince, I wasn't planning on touching the condenser, so thanks for the heads up!

What is that little buggy sitting next to your golf?

It's a '73 Mini. Cooper S replica, with a 1380 engine. Unfortunately it doesn't run at the moment as I was in the middle of doing a head gasket job.
