I'm hearing a noise coming from the engine area of the car when above 35mph. It sounds similar to when the car RPMs are running high before shifting. I have a 135k miles and it's due for the $1800 timing belt. Any ideas? Not sure if I want to put $1800 into it if there is something major wrong. Unless the noise is related to the timing belt.

I would start by having a look around under the hood for anything obvious. Make sure there’s nothing loose or damaged that you can see.

I think we’d need to hear the sound to even begin to guess what it might be.

I figured out when the noise occurs. When I'm driving straight or turning to the left the noise is obvious. When I'm turning to the right the noise disappears. So if I'm driving on the highway and I'm turning to the right the noise vanishes. Suspension, wheels, brakes, alignment..? It's definitely not the engine.
Thank you
