I went to the DC Auto Show yesterday and drove the Jetta TDI DSG and Passat TDI DSG back to back. Couldn't believe how much difference in feel there is between the two in 0-30 mph driving. How do people deal with the Jetta's throttle response? Regardless, I'll go with 6MT over the DSG on a Passat anyway.

We have our first child on the way, so I'm waiting (read: my wife has dictated) until we are settled after birth before I get a new car. That means I'll be looking at MY14 if the order banks are the same as MY12.

Last year, it seems 2013 changes were announced on April 23 yet the order bank for 2012s closed April 20. Deliveries began in early to mid July. It would be nice to know what the changes will be in order to have the luxury of choosing more closely which specs I prefer--do the updates generally get released prior to the previous model year order bank closing with other VWs? Just wishful thinking since MY12 to MY13 was the first transition for the Passat I guess.

I doubt there are any cosmetic changes for MY14--I think maybe MY15--just some option/packaging/content alterations that could be for the better or not. Hopefully the 6MT retains the heated seats, but gaining ventilated seats won't happen. Making the fog lights standard across the TDI range would be appreciated as I'd rather the factory do the wiring than the dealership retrofit kit. Also, some new color availability would be nice specifically new non-metallic colors (a true Navy blue or light-medium gray) which also won't happen.

Thoughts on how the '14s will differ?

I went today as well. Actually, surprising to see my SEL doesn't have air vent for the rear sears. Why?

If VW continues with their tradition, the 2014 Passat will likely be de-contented. It might be something as simple as a glovebox light. The 2013's don't have footwell lights in the rear but the 2012's do.... The 2012's don't have back-up cameras but the 2013's do (SEL models).

At this point in time, it's all speculation. I highly doubt VW will add parking sensors, xenon lights, or anything that will bring it upmarket.

... None :S
I looked through the parts catalog last night and didn't spot anything new... no Xenon lights, no LED tails, no 1.8T. From what I can see 14 will be a repeat of 13.
