Hopefully this thread title will keep Windex busy for a while so he doesnt go whacko on me . But I wish him luck . Try Wikipedia .
Well I may have misspoke . When I changed my oil Sunday , I got in the car and was turning the wheel back and forth when I noticed the clanking or grinding noise.
Not because I changed the oil. It was because I never sat there and turned the wheel back and forth like this before .
Engine off turning wheel back and forth quickly theres a clanking . Engine running wheel back and forth not so much so. Only a clank when I turn wheel hard left and right while engine running.
My thinking on the front end noise Ive been experiencing for some time is the rack and pinion unit connected to the steering wheel. Bolts could be loose or unit needs replacement . Im taking it to a repair shop who has not overcome his inner demons when repairing VW's . He will diagnosis for me but may not want to work on it . The car has to go up on a lift at this point. Either way works for me

Issues with Windex? I'm beginning to think he's prescient. Not yet in a Nostradamus way, but getting there.
Me? I may be a bit slower, but I'm beginning to wonder if multiple threads are warranted, particularly when the first of this non-sequitur series is nothing more than a 'I changed the oil in my car'.

Oh it by no means began with the oil change thread, this has been an ongoing thing since his very first post. 😂
I do agree though that more than one thread for all these ramblings is a bit excessive, maybe they could all be compiled into one big “Adventures With JWH” thread?

Did any ahh dees fellow banjo-pickers suggest worn strut bearings in yerr earlier posts?
Prairie poo you certainly have a command of the English language. Were you in that movie with Burt Reynolds where they were shooting arrows at eveybody hahaha. What was that movie ?
Glad you mentioned that. Im surprised others didnt chime in on the strut bearings
I did replace the heavy rubber front strut mount , but had no idea they had a bearing. I didnt put them in personally so when I bought them I dont recall if the bearing was included. If not then the old ones bearings were put back in , or maybe they were not put back in or were never in there ?
My question now is can the front strut be installed without that bearing in place ? Maybe it was never in there.
My has never overcome his inner demons working on VW's mechanic put it on a lift. Checked the front end and said everything was tight. No problems. So its either the strut bearings or maybe the rack and pinion assembly could be loose . I forgot to ask him if he checked that.
Anyways the Bearings will be replaced Thurs. I'll let you know. Buscar flechas voladoras!

Maybe because I just woke up at 11pm for work but I tried reading this sentance several times to try to decipher it - no luck.

I think in theory it could be put together with out the bearing. My suspicion would be (not joking here even) more of a twing twang type noise. the bearing lets the spring rotate with compression, and I could imagine the spring lurching without it. I may be way off, as previously mentioned I am tired.

Well maybe I wrote the sentence wrong. Ive been reading too many of Prairie Views posts.
Its been a long running joke with him ( the mechanic.) whenever I bring my Jetta in I ask him if hes overcome his inner demons when working on VW's

Well guess what ? Prairie Poo you were right . You must do your best thinking when your listening to banjo music, haha!
My mechanic not Action Jackson but one who has a shop repaired it today. Its cheaper to go to the auto shop cause Jackson drinks a lot of beer. This auto technician has overcome his inner demons with VW's and is now working on them.
Well after Poo asked me in a post if any of my banjo playing Deliverance boys had mentioned the problem might be my strut bearings ? I scoffed at the idea.
I had no idea they had strut bearings . Upon further research I realized he was not joking around.
The Tech. replaced the upper heavy rubber strut mounts and strut bearings for the front struts. He said the bearings were crushed and had actually distorted the rubber mounts so bad they were not usable again. This was the source of all the front end racket I was experiencing . So hats off to Prairie Poo for solving the problem. Im surprised other Forum members had not recognized this as a possible issue.
So now every time I hit a pothole or a Redneck tries to rear end me I will think of you Poo. Thanks again for the response on that thread Prairie because that was the problem, I really appreciate it . my Jetta doesnt sound like the front end is gonna fall off every time I hit a bump.
Signing off for now. Twing Twang. Feliz Navidad to all
