Has anyone had to clean out the EGR valve and how time consuming is the process?

Give us some context here. What engine, which EGR valve, and why?

2014 passat tdi,, i got a code for p2457 poor egr flow

OK, that DTC is not an EGR flow code, it is "poor EGR cooling system performance", which is indicative of a clogged heater core. Very common, there is a TSB about it. It is not an issue with the EGR valve itself.

It was an issue before Dieselgate, it is MUCH more of an issue now.
