EGR Vag-com mod and passing emission testing . .

I just did the EGR mod via my vag-com (just got it at waterfest) and I'm wondering what I should do when emissions time rolls around.

CT has shut down their program for the last year or so to put a new one in place. From what I understand on our DMV's website is that it will be an OBD computer test rather than putting the car on a dyno at 25mph for a minute or two with a tail sniffer like they used to.

Since I'm not throwing any codes with my EGR mod do I need to worry about this OBD test or should I restor my EGR to stock a day or two before I head in? ( I didn't up it all the way to 33768 that was the suggested max I did 33750 IIRC). Also they said to applicable diesels there will be opacity tests. From what I gather that's generally only done on commercial / heavy duty diesels not our TDI's.

In the same vein, I am wondering if you disconnect the battery for any reason, do you need to redo any patches you have made with the vag-com, such as the EGR mod?

I think the only thing that gets screwed up when power is disconnected is the radio which needs to be re-coded...sometimes.

Great thanks. I didn't think I would since the EGR setting is vag-com and not OBDII plus they aren't tail pipe sniffing.

As for the battery I don't know about ECU settings b/c I do know the windows have to be reset for auto up/down which is in the manual and only pre2001's need to recode the radios after battery disconnection. With 2000 - current if you disconnect the battery just restart the car and power on the radio, it will unlock itself automatically

One other thing, if you are really worried then just change the setting back to stock for the inspection. After the inspection, go back to the modded mode.

In CT, for 1997 and newer cars, all they will do is connect to the OBD port and read fault codes. No more tailpipe sniffing.

For 1996 and older, they will be tailpipe sniffing.

I just checked last week with the CT DMV on this.

That's what I was hoping that I'd be all set since I'm not throwing CEL's and I can check my fault codes right before I go in (vag-coms are the best things ever!).

Yeah I could always set it back to stock before hand, but I think I'll be fine.
