I'm new to the TDI world and bought a used 2006 jetta with 155k miles on it. Recently, the Check engine light has been coming on and the reader says it's an EGR system fault. I had a friend go over it today and found a big mess on the turbo cooling system. Wastegate is gone and theres JB weld holding the flap stem. We have already had the egr valve replaced which didn't fix the issue so im guessing this is it. My friend is telling me to do an EGR delete and it will improve everything. However, I know they do emissions testing here in Lincoln County NC. Do they also test older deisel cars? Is this a good path to consider? Or should I keep fixing the egr system?
