I have a 2012 Passat TDI 187k Miles with an EGR code. I'm new to the TDI world and I found EGR delete kits. I don't plan to do a dpf delete but I wondering what are the advantages of the EGR delete kit? Will I need a tune? and I would assume It will Violate emotions
Does anyone have recommendations on kits out there?

Unfortunately your in one of the least diesel friendly states imaginable. You may get crickets for responses. But I take pleasure in stating I've seen many non delete tune fly flawlessly thru Ca. Biannual smogs.

Ca. leftist policies usually shoot themself in the foot. I'm just happy to help with the other. Best luck

I just got it smogged a few weeks ago(just bought the car) so im not too concerned about smog. In 2 years I'll probly have enough mods to need to hot smog it any way. I care More about my car running the best it can and not getting state-refed. Aka not being mega loud rolling coal. Which I know won't be the case

Usually any talk of deleting or bypassing emissions systems isn't talked about on the forums when it comes to stating companies that do it or shops will to remove components.

Why would anyone delete the egr -- which doesn't cause all kinds of problems on that car

...but keep the dpf- - which does cause problems.

If your dpf is bad, it will mess up your cat downstream too, and probably your turbo.

As mentioned, deleting the EGR accomplishes almost nothing as EGR can spit codes all day and have almost no effect on drivability. However this WILL effect the DPF by lower engine temperatures for longer and when that goes....
And also as mentioned, CA is very unwelcoming to any modifications so you probably should just get a quote to fix the EGR if you want to keep the car

Its not like an egr system on a 1975 Maveric were the egr consumed massive hp on an already gutless engine. A bb in the vacuum line wont cut it! The egr delete had redeeming value on an alh intake soot buildup with no dpf. But now with the dpf strangle hold, they need to work together as mentioned above. Even with a dpf removal and tune a "dynamic" egr setting seems the going rage.
