Hello all,

I am stumbling along with my 2000 golf A4 AHL manual transmission project car. The previous owner did a lot of modifications to it, and I am trying to get it back to its original condition. That being said, it appears the EGR cooler has been deleted. The EGR valve is still intact, but the cooler and lower pipe is missing.

Do I need to replace this? I live in a rural area that does not require emissions testing. I want to do what is best for the car.

Please advise.

On those, if you're not in an area that requires testing, I'd just leave it off. I've gotten several vehicles that its been removed and I just left it off. The BHW engines benefit more from it, the alh had issues with it clogging the intake manifold and it caused issues that way.

hopefully you have VCDS - or at least vcds-lite. it's absolutely essential to owning a tdi, especially a project car that you're trying to get to run RIGHT. :) so get it, and learn how to use it, if you haven't... i can't stress that enough. 100% essential.

Doesn't Az. smog test upon ownership transfer, even non required annual or bi-annual?
