Hey yall I’m looking into getting a 05 Passat TDI It’s got the balance shaft delete and a new oil pump also it got a stick swap with a O1E but he’s claiming it’s got a bad head gasket. With everything I’ve read it looks like it’s mostly a EGR Cooler problem, I’ve also read that it’s almost better to just get the delete kit than replace it. What’s the major pros and cons that anyone on here knows, and if any one has a strong enough opinion on it which way do you lean.

Might you have to have the car inspected?
If not, and you are thinking a coolant leak, delete. You do not need the quicker heat there.

I haven’t had it looked at it, but it’s pouring copious amounts of white smoke out the back end and the oil is not mixing with the coolant and there’s nothing coming out of the heads and I would end up doing the job myself plus from what I’m seeing. It’s a lot cheaper.

You don't really need a 'kit' to bypass the EGR cooler, which is the only thing in the EGR system that can mix coolant into the exhaust. Can also do that temporarily to diagnose and then just order a new cooler if that's the problem; they're about 200-300USD new.
