Long story short- I bought a 2011 JSW from PA and it has been to the shop now 3 times for the same EGR codes (I checked with VAGCOM before going to the dealer). I figured it was under warranty as the 'fix' was done Sep 2018 with 106k and I have 117k on it now. The advisor called me yesterday to tell me that the tech had dug further into the wiring harness, at my insistence, and found that there was significant corrosion on three wires and they recommended, naturally, full harness replacement at a cost of $1700- apparently NOT under the extended warranty. He did provide me with the 'address' of the affected wires: Term 2 T60/34, Term 5 T60/41, and Term 6 T60/49.
How is the engine harness not covered under the OBD portion of the warranty?
Page 9 states "The On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system, any malfunctions detected by the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system other than those related to the transmission"
I am pretty decent with a wrench, and have done just about everything to my multiple TDIs over the years EXCEPT for tb jobs as I don't trust myself to actually do it right on the first try without an expert hand to assist.
The quoted part price is over $700, which I know can be purchased direct from VW for a few hundred less- how intensive of a job is it to replace the entire harness or just locate the wires and splice them? Does anyone have a breakout of the wiring harness diagram I can have? This seems to be the one job without a video on youtube.
