99.5 Golf
Hello Guys, I've been searching but no definitive answers. I have a 99.5 golf that has been socketed and tuned already. I have an RC3 tune, and I believe stock injectors and nozzles. I need new injectors and nozzles so I need a new tune. I found a place to get the tune I want, but have never loaded one before. What is the eeprom burner I need? Is it the q loader thing I've heard about here? does it load through the OBD2 port or will i be removing the computer? are there other or better options? Also, I have a VNT 17, i have also read that going over 18psi I need to have EGT and boost gauges, how big of deal are those? thanks

willem gq-4x4 will work as will a tl-866 (cheaper, but works perfect). out of curiousity, what tune?

you take the tune files, burn them to chips, then swap them out of the ecu - you physically remove them from the sockets. there's no OBD flashing.

IMO, if you really care about how well the car is running, you should have egt/boost once you start going beyond .205s. as well as VCDS for data logging. log data + egt + watching live boost is immensely helpful. that + keeping track of mpgs

Thanks for the quick response. The tuner is Nelson Martin. I heard a few good things from him in a TDI truck swap group. We haven't talked about the details of the Tune yet but i have a VNT 17 and a sachs clutch rated at 300 ft lbs so nothing too crazy. I do plan on getting vag com. Do you know if they have a phone based version yet?

you can get the wifi vcds version ("hexnet") which lets you log data and do fault codes over a browser so it works on the phone. it's a local network, so the only downside is you can't be online on your phone elsewhere as you're connected to the VCDS network. but it is super convenient for watching/logging data - i prop it up on the cluster so i can easily watch the numbers. Very handy for what I do... Not really worth the extra $$ unless you really want to get into watching live data for fine tuning etc

Everyone should have a spare old phone that they've upgraded from. The perfect "burner" for stuff like this.
very true. although my last phone is totally busted, but i believe i have an even older one that should be good for that.... i keep forgetting

And what kind of chips do we buy extra of for tuning/swapping?
I'm sticking an AHU in a Rabbit

if you ever need chips, i've acquired a substantial supply at very good prices :)
