Edge Insight CTS not working

Hey everyone! Brand new here I just introduced myself in the introduction thread.

So my new to me Jetta is throwing several codes. I was told about some of them when I bought the car, but there are even more that I did not know about. The car runs well, but I would like to address them if I can.

I bought an Edge Insight CTS last summer to run on my Duramax, and it worked great. I had the EAS EGT probe on it as well.

Now that I have the Jetta for a DD, I figured I might as well run the CTS on it since I already have it (I know they are pretty limited in what they read on a TDI). I also wanted to check the codes with it.

However, the Insight will not connect to my car. By searching on here I see that there are people running these on MK4 cars. It powers up, and runs through all of the protocols and cannot connect. I am currently in contact with Edge about the issue as well. So I know I am getting power at the OBD port, and last week I took the car to Autozone and their pocket scan code reader worked flawlessly. I should have been paying more attention to the codes but I basically just wanted him to verify that the car could be read. I know I have glow plug and glow plug circuit codes (which I am not real concerned with at this point) but some other codes came up like a MAF code and an EGR code.

Is there anything you guys can think of on the car side that would be preventing the Edge from connecting? I have the stock (Monsoon) radio. From what I have read the ALH uses the ISO protocol? Which the Edge does run through when its checking.

Thanks! I am looking forward to learning a great deal about my TDI from this site!

EDIT: I did try unhooking the battery cables and touching them together and hooking them back up. Basically what I am trying to avoid is paying $60+ for a code reader when I already own a $400 gauge/reader lol.

Vance

Looks like your Edge doesn't speak German, VCDS does.
ross-tech.com

Dont buy the $60 scanner, it doesn't speak German either.

Thanks for the replies! You guys are correct, the Edge does not support the TDI I guess. I spoke on the phone with them about it and he basically said I was out of luck.

Tdijarhead, I actually didn't see your message so I did go out and buy a scanner. Its a $90 scanner but Advance has it on sale for $45. It worked though! I plugged it in and it read the car no problem. Since the Edge isn't gonna work, this thread is somewhat dead already, however instead of creating another one I will just keep this going with my codes.

I already researched these on the ross-tech site so I have some ideas of what to do now! I had seven altogether.

P0671, P0673, P0674: Not too worried about these GP codes right now.

P0118: ECT sensor high voltage
P0128: Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temp below thermostat regulating temp)
P0101
P0402

I am assuming 118 and 128 are related and probably mean a bad ECT sensor?? However, the gauge always runs right up to 190 degrees and stays there while driving the car.

I am a little worried about P0101 because the ross-tech site mentions it could be due to a internal mechanical problem. Should I unplug the MAF or??

For P0402, should I try cleaning the EGR valve area up first? I can push the valve by hand when the engine isn't running and it returns to its original position.

Thanks guys!
