Can somebody explain the various years Immobilizers and what year/build date ECU’ are exchange in US. I have a 00 Jetta 5spd, I am looking for a spare ECU to chip for my car. Specifically will this http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=151212 99 Beetle ECU fit my car?
I searched and found several thread such as this one http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=70663&highlight=immoblizerbut no definitive capability table. Perhaps this should be part of FAQ’s.

Thanks in advance.

Have someone with a Vag-Com read the part number of the one in your car now. If you can,t get someone to read it you can pull the ecu yourself and get the part number off it yourself. You need to match part numbers as there were severl ECUs durning that time frame.

99.5 cars do not have immobilizers. 2000-2001 have immo II. If your car is a 2000, then it has a BD suffix on the ECU. That is interchangable with a CP suffex from a 2001 car. 2002-2003 have Immo III, so don't even bother looking for one of those. And of course, the 2004 & newer PD cars are completely different.
