EBJ vs EGR

The reverse recently went out in my 2000 jetta with an EBJ transmission. I found a used EGR 5 speed out of a 2001 jetta.

Other than switching my shift linkages around will I have any other problems with the swap? Maybe clutch fitment?

Appears the same-ol'. Spend time cleaning up the internal bell and such. Nothing more puzzling/angering/***-ering than pulling apart an engine and trans which "just had a new clutch" and the bell is holding all the weeped grease and clutch material from the day it left the factory.

Basically the same transmission. I think the EGR (compared to earlier DQY and EBJ) switched to a different style of 1st and 2nd gear synchros, meaning first and second themselves are different along with the synchros, selector hub and collar.

If you have an early EBJ with the 99.5 and older style shift linkage, that is easily swapped. Although I would argue the 2000 and later model year linkage is far far superior. Would be a worthwhile upgrade...
