My Passat is now at 330k miles and running fine but am kinda wondering if I should go ahead and replace the DMF?
Am I running on borrowed time?

I'm at nearly 400 K ( actually I think 399990miles) and I have a sound ... not sure it is DMF or not since I had a slight throwout bearing noise starting to happen occasionally ( I have not driven the car recently because of it .... Ill save the last 90 mile trip to the TDI guru to look at when he gets time)

Having said that, I am fully prepared to swap stuff out if needed and most likely fairly soon since mechanical noises don't normally cure themselves in a good way.

If you aren't hearing anything funny , I would be inclined to just motor on a bit more but thats just me...

Thanks, mine is a DSG, not a manual but no noise at all, service advisor brought it up.
I am hoping to hold off until the timing belt at 400k.

If there's no noise at idle, or visible play, I'd leave it until there's are real reason to replace it. IMO it'd be like changing out a wheel bearing just cause you reached XXX miles.

Sometimes service advisors go fishing and hoping someone bites.

yeah it definitely sounds as though your service adviser is just wanting to fix something not worth fixing for extra money, stick with it until somethings wrong. at least that's what i'd do
