While reinstalling the tranny after I pulled it to replace the DMF and pilot bearing I heard a sound that I thought was the metal shield slipping on the bolt thread. I heard it as I was starting to tighten the two side bolts (the ones with the little nubs that stick out to help line it up). It was a kind of metallic pop sound as I was tightening the bolt toward the rear of the engine.
After checking my alignment again I continued tightening the bolts working my way around until all were almost completely tight when I heard another metalic pop sound while tightening the bottom most bolt. So I am concerned that maybe the rod that goes into the pilot bearing maybe hooked it or something.
Does anyone have any experience with this and maybe what those pops could have been?
One other question. Anyone know what this spring is and where it goes?
I found sitting on top of the transmission after it was unbolted and I was working the transmission out of the vehicle before I replaced the flywheel. I have no idea where it came from and would like to return it to it's proper home.
