I"m thinking about getting a new Passat TDI dsg.I currently have a 09 Jetta DSG tdi 78k and a 2010 Jetta TDI dsg 28k. Both cars tend to lug a bit at 40mph. I was wondering if this was corected on the 2012 Passat dsg.

capt. common rail: what do you mean by 'lug a bit at 40mph'? I have never seen any threads about it with the 2012 passat.

My assumption... Tom is referring to threads in the A6 and A5 forums -- and there are plenty. IIRC they began with the 2009 Jetta models. 2005.5-2006.5 DSGs are much better behaved. So much for refinements over time. Crossing my fingers for the Passat DSG.

By all accounts I've read here and other sources, this DSG application is probably the best so far when coupled to this newest 2.0 CR.

Mine sure is smooth (only < 100 miles), but I've noticed it's quite happy to cruise along barely above 1100rpm, right around 40mph. I know that's deliberately programmed in, probably for fuel efficiency, but I'd like a few hundred more revs, for cooling, oil circulation, exhaust flow through the DPF.

I didn't with my JSW (purchased first, with no knowledge of TDIClub:eek:) With the Jetta sedan, I did what I thought was Drivbiwire's advice...finding the few longish hills near me, and doing several descents in a row, allowing engine braking in a lower gear all the way down. Ditto for climbing the hill, holding the gear as long as possible, while under load. Seemed abusive, but...
My Jetta sedan consistently got 3-5 more MPG than the JSW. Could be the additional weight of the JSW, combined with the 235/45-17 tires on the JSW. I prefer to think it's because the rings were broken in better.

So...I have already spent a few miles in the Passat, using the hills as above. We'll see how it works. FYI, I was always certain that coolant AND oil were fully warm before any excessive load or revving.

YES, the DSG in my Passat is programmed to maintain steady-state speed, in any gear, lugging around 1200-1300...does it while driving slowly through the neighborhood.

I DON'T like it, and wish there were a way to re-program the DSG.
